About The Position

The RN Nurse is responsible for providing personal care and skilled nursing services to each resident, as well as the supervision of the Certified Nursing Assistants in performing resident care. This is an overnight position on the Skilled Nursing Unit, with specific shifts detailed. The role requires adherence to nursing standards, facility policies, and effective communication with residents, families, and staff.

Requirements

  • Licensed in the state of Illinois as a Licensed Practical Nurse or a Registered Nurse.
  • Must possess or be able to obtain current CPR certification.
  • Must have an adequate understanding of English and be able to speak and write it well.
  • Must be able to work independently, as well as a team member, with a positive, pro-active attitude.
  • Is flexible and adapts to change and new tasks.
  • Follows all policies and procedures of Prairieview at The Garlands.
  • Must be a team-oriented individual who enjoys working collaboratively with others, creating a positive and uplifting environment, and communicating very effectively at all levels.

Responsibilities

  • Provides personal care and skilled nursing services to residents.
  • Supervises Certified Nursing Assistants in performing resident care.
  • Follows established standards of nursing practice and implements facility policies and procedures.
  • Interprets policies and procedures to nursing assistants, other departments, physicians, residents, and family members.
  • Conducts resident rounds to identify needs and initiates corrective action.
  • Observes and supervises infection control procedures.
  • Identifies safety hazards and initiates corrective action.
  • Identifies resident problems and emergency situations and initiates emergency care.
  • Follows, supervises, and evaluates the implementation of the Resident Rights protocol.
  • Provides respect, privacy, and dignity to all residents.
  • Listens to resident, family, and physician concerns, initiates corrective actions, and communicates concerns to the Director of Nursing.
  • Works cooperatively with residents, nursing staff, physicians, family members, consultants, community agencies, and ancillary service providers.
  • Follows facility discharge/transfer procedures and coordinates with other departments, physicians, and ancillary service providers.
  • Completes documentation related to resident discharge/transfer.
  • Performs basic and advanced nursing skills as appropriate.
  • Completes narcotic counts, checks emergency medication supply, and exchanges keys with incoming Nurse.
  • Administers all ordered medications and completes all ordered treatments.
  • Documents resident care related to medication administration, monitoring, effectiveness, and side effects.
  • Notifies physician of changes in resident condition, medication errors, unavailable medications, adverse side effects, abnormal lab/x-ray results, and other unusual observations.
  • Documents daily notes on unstable residents, Medicare residents, and recently admitted residents.
  • Assists with orientation of new residents to the facility.
  • Checks meal trays and nourishment's to ensure proper diet is served.
  • Assists with serving resident meals and encourages nutrition and hydration.
  • Performs all duties in an effective, cooperative, professional, and timely manner.
  • Demonstrates excellent listening skills and communicates effectively with patience and understanding.
  • Responds to customers by promptly researching options and following through with necessary actions.
  • Treats all customers with dignity and respect and establishes a trusting relationship.
  • Directs customers appropriately based on their needs.
  • Attends staff meetings, educational programs, and resident care plan meetings.
  • Must be familiar with resident rights, the definition of Resident Abuse, and the reporting protocol of possible Resident Abuse.
  • Must be able to respond quickly and appropriately to an emergency situation.
