About The Position

This position practices according to entity mandatory requirements, department expectations, and best practice standards of care, with a strong emphasis on customer service. The RN participates in ongoing Performance Improvement programs and cares for patients utilizing the nursing process with an interdisciplinary approach. Key responsibilities include providing effective patient and family teaching, initiating discharge planning, assessing patients for actual and potential problems, and documenting diagnoses. The role involves administering medications safely, including moderate sedation, managing patient pain, and utilizing restraints per policy. The RN must identify and report signs of neglect/abuse, care for terminally ill patients and families, and address age-specific needs. Specific duties include performing cardiovascular assessments, assessing physical, mental, and psychosocial status, and assisting physicians with minor/local surgical and gastroenterology procedures such as colonoscopy with polypectomy, biopsy, esophageal dilations, and percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy. The role also includes performing pre and post-procedure phone calls, providing post-procedure patient care, and maintaining appropriate licenses and certifications. Proficiency in computerized nursing informatics is required. Requirements

  • Must read, write and communicate in English.
  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.
  • Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
  • BLS certification.
  • Successful passage of FH’s pharmacology exam.
  • Successful passage of Basic Arrhythmia Program or challenge exam.
  • Minimum of 2 to 3 years of current (within the last 5 years) Endoscopy experience.

Nice To Haves

  • ACLS within three months.
  • Moderate Sedation certification with three months.

Responsibilities

  • Provides effective patient and family teaching throughout the spectrum of care, initiating discharge planning at time of admission.
  • Assesses patients for actual and potential problems and updates assessments continually.
  • Documents the patients’ diagnoses which are derived from: health assessment, history and interviews.
  • Administers medications safely, to include moderate sedation within hospital guidelines under the direction of the physician.
  • Manages the patient with pain.
  • Utilizes chemical and physical restraints per policy.
  • Identifies signs and symptoms of neglect/abuse and reports as required by law.
  • Cares for terminally ill patient and family, respective of patient’s advance directives.
  • Addresses age-specific needs of infants, toddlers, school age, adolescents, adults, older adults.
  • Performs cardiovascular assessment.
  • Assess the physical, mental and psychosocial status of patients.
  • Assists physicians with minor/local surgical procedures to include pain management interventions.
  • Assists physicians with gastroenterology procedures to include but not limited to colonoscopy with polypectomy, biopsy, splinting patient’s abdominal wall during colonoscopy, esophageal dilations, percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy, bandings and electrocautery procedures to include argon plasma coagulation, clipping and subcutaneous injections.
  • Performs pre and post procedure phone calls.
  • Provides care of the post procedure patient.
  • Maintains appropriate licenses, certifications, registrations required to perform duties of their designated role/position.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in computerized nursing informatics.
