About The Position

The RN Orthopedic Service Line Coordinator will act as the primary point of contact for orthopedic patients from referral to recovery. This role involves coordinating appointments, diagnostics, pre-operative clearances, and post-operative follow-ups, ensuring timely movement of patients through the care continuum and minimizing delays. The coordinator will educate patients and families on procedures, expectations, recovery plans, and care pathways, while also identifying and addressing barriers to care such as transportation, financial, or social determinants of health. Additionally, the role supports the implementation and adherence to standardized orthopedic pathways, monitors patient progress, and facilitates prehabilitation and post-acute care coordination. Collaboration with orthopedic surgeons, advanced practice providers, and multidisciplinary teams is key, as is ensuring seamless care transitions through interdisciplinary communication. The coordinator will also serve as an advocate for patients and families, promote patient engagement tools, and monitor patient satisfaction. Operationally, the role involves tracking key service line metrics, identifying opportunities for process improvement, and participating in quality improvement initiatives. Accurate documentation in the electronic medical record and tracking of patient navigation activities and outcomes are also essential.

Requirements

Graduate of accredited nursing program
Current NC or Multistate RN license
BSN
BLS
ACLS
Minimum 3 years orthopedic or surgical services experience
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
Diplomacy, tact, and a positive approach to problem solving
Organizational skills
Ability to communicate with patients, customers, other departments, and staff in an articulate and professional manner
EMR (electronic medical record) charting

Responsibilities

Coordinate interdisciplinary communication to ensure seamless care transitions.
Support physician practices with scheduling optimization and case progression.
Serve as an advocate for patients and families.
Promote patient engagement tools (education materials, digital platforms, classes such as joint camp).
Monitor patient satisfaction and address concerns in real time.
Track key service line metrics (length of stay, surgical volumes, readmissions, case delays).
Identify opportunities for process improvement and efficiency.
Participate in quality improvement initiatives and care redesign efforts.
Maintain accurate documentation in the electronic medical record.
Track patient navigation activities and outcomes.
Assist with reporting and dashboard monitoring for orthopedic program performance.
