Operating Room Registered Nurse specializing in Urology and Orthopedics. This role involves orientation from 06:15-14:45 Monday-Friday for up to 12 weeks and requires taking call. The position is located at Zale Lipshy Pavillion. Requirements

  • Graduate of NLN approved nursing program
  • 1 year experience of Operating Room RN experience
  • NLC (NURSING LICENSURE COMPACT-BNE) or Current Texas license
  • BLS (BASIC LIFE SUPPORT) course accredited by the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC).

Responsibilities

  • Assesses and documents physiological, psychological, sociocultural, and spiritual health status of patient on admission utilizing age-specific concerns for children, adolescents, adults, and older adults.
  • Performs ongoing assessment of patient's physiological health status during intraoperative phase.
  • Communicates relevant health status data to other team members and departments.
  • Interprets health status data to anticipate patient's, family's, and physician's needs and expectations.
  • Develops appropriate plan of care for patient.
  • Utilizes critical thinking skills in planning and prioritizing intraoperative nursing care.
  • Identifies and implements appropriate intraoperative nursing interventions based on health status data.
  • Completes accurate and timely documentation of interventions.
  • Confers with all members of the health care team in a collaborative fashion, sharing information and observations of patient and/or patient's family in a manner that contributes to optimal patient care.
  • Evaluates implemented interventions and modifies care according to evaluation.
  • Documents interventions and modifications to the plan of care in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Prioritizes intraoperative nursing interventions per patient's health status data, physician, and planned procedures as applicable.
  • Adheres to appropriate hospital policies, procedures, and standards of nursing practice while delivering intraoperative nursing care.
  • Provides appropriate and timely patient education to patient and/or patient's family.
  • Completes accurate and timely documentation of education provided.
  • Demonstrates effective communication with children, adolescents, adults, and older adults.
  • Supervises, directs, and coordinates patient care assignments of other members of the healthcare team.
  • Delegates duties within legal parameters.
  • Prepares for procedures as appropriate by obtaining supplies and equipment in a timely manner.
  • Serves as a technical subject matter expert, resource person, and/or preceptor to nursing staff.
  • Completes written clinical performance evaluation form in a timely manner.
  • Handles and operates instruments, supplies, and equipment and performs safe nursing care in a manner that is cost-effective without compromising quality of care.
  • Solves minor problem issues of counts and errors, patient care, relationships, equipment, supplies, and environment prior to management intervention.
  • Provides and supports efforts to develop and maintain a team environment.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
