About The Position

This 30-bed unit specializes in caring for stroke, post-neurosurgery, and post-orthopedic patients as well as patients with general medical issues. This unit emphasizes early mobility, pain control, and neuro-assessment and pain control. The RNs are NIH stroke scale certified and take care of patients of all ages. The patient-to-nurse ratio ranges from 4-5:1 on a day shift and 5-6:1 on night shift. The unit maintains a strong culture of teamwork, continuous learning, teaching and high-quality care, with a commitment to excellent outcomes and patient satisfaction. The Graduate Nurse plays a key role in the delivery of caring, competent patient care in conjunction with a mentoring Registered Nurse. Will perform assessments in an ongoing and systematic manner, formulate a goal directed plan of care and implement delegated interdependent and independent direct care activities based on skills learning and clinical training, assessment findings and evaluation of any previous interventions. Collaborates with mentoring RN on the nursing process, supporting documentation and other items as appropriate. It is expected that Graduate Nurses will successfully obtain certification/licensure from the State of Michigan and transition into a Registered Nurse role within 60 days.

Requirements

  • Associates in Nursing
  • Bachelors in Nursing within 5 years
  • Graduates from a non-accredited school of nursing must have at least one year of acute care experience or at least two years of experience in a licensed health care role and must have successfully passed the NCLEX licensure examination.
  • MI Registered Nurse (RN)
  • AHA or ARC Basic Life Support (BLS) within 90 days
  • NIH Stroke Certification - NIHSS National Institute of Health Stroke Scale within 90 days
