About The Position
The Registered Nurse in the Operating Room demonstrates proficiency in the fundamentals of the nursing process in a specialty unit. The nurse contributes to nursing assessments and care-plan development and participates in evaluating nursing care within the assigned unit, department, or specialty area. The role shares responsibility with other health care disciplines and reports to the Department of Nursing Director. This position is scheduled for 40 hours per week on days with call and has a 20-minute call-back requirement. Hotel accommodations near CGH may be arranged for candidates living outside the 20-minute radius. External candidates with at least one year of experience are eligible for a $15,000 sign-on bonus.
Requirements
- Current Illinois Registered Nurse licensure.
- Associate's Degree in Nursing.
- Maintain certification according to the requirements of the specialty unit.
- BLS certification within 30 days of hire and maintained throughout employment at CGH.
Nice To Haves
- Bachelor’s degree in nursing.
- Basic computer knowledge.
- Prior knowledge of drawing blood.
- Thorough knowledge of medical equipment and instruments.
Responsibilities
- Provide optimal patient care using the nursing process.
- Maintain patient records and document an accurate account of medical and nursing care.
- Administer and control narcotics, medications, and IV therapies in accordance with the Registered Nurse Nurse Practice Act.
- Assess and plan patient and family education and discharge needs.
- Recognize and respond appropriately to emergency situations.
- Solve problems, including initiating, delegating, and evaluating patient-care-team functions.
- Promote an environment conducive to professional practice by serving as a role model and resource for other patient-services team members.
- Practice nursing competencies based on current scientific knowledge.
