About The Position

The RN, Oncology Navigator is responsible for coordinating operations within the Department to meet or exceed patient care requirements. This role serves as a clinical expert in assessing the oncology patient population, acting as a patient advocate, and providing skilled education to patients, families, and caregivers. The navigator communicates effectively with healthcare team members and departments, monitors adherence to policies and procedures for patient and staff safety, and manages equipment and supplies. They also keep management informed of patient care and staff issues. The position involves problem-solving, decision-making, prioritizing tasks, and maintaining a patient-centered approach. The RN utilizes the nursing process for patient care, collaborates with healthcare providers, performs emergency treatments, maintains documentation, communicates effectively, and promotes patient and staff safety. Other duties as assigned.

Ability to administer medications and hazardous drugs, treatments and procedures in a timely and safe manner according to health care provider orders and nursing policy, including appropriate performance of standard precautions, using two patient identifiers, and completes the medication reconciliation/regimen review with each patient visit and during interdisciplinary team meetings
Ability to utilize proper body mechanics; transfer/lifting techniques to minimize fall risk to patient and injury to self
Ability to implement infectious disease controls as appropriate including isolation procedures, proper use of hand washing and gloves
Ability to follow proper procedures for wasting narcotics and disposal of sharps and hazardous materials according to policy
