This position will provide onsite comprehensive Occupational Health services to an assigned client site in the Salem, VA area. The American Association of Occupational Health Nurses describes an occupational health nurse as someone who “provides for and delivers health and safety programs and services to workers, worker populations and community groups. The practice focuses on promotion and restoration of health, prevention of illness and injury, and protection from work-related and environmental hazards. Requirements

  • ASN required, BSN preferred.
  • RN licensure required.
  • Certification in Occupational Health Nursing or Case Management preferred.
  • Must be prepared to pursue and attain client-required certifications.
  • BLS Required.
  • Must be detail oriented, have the ability to multitask and possess great interpersonal skills.
  • Travel to other company locations is required.
  • Must be current with health and safety legislation.
  • Must possess advanced knowledge in public safety and industrial health standards.
  • Must be able to maintain composure and work effectively within groups.

Responsibilities

  • Provides basic first aid for work related and non-work related injuries (based from company policy)
  • Conducts thorough post offer physical examinations/pre-employment drug screens on new employee candidates
  • Maintains employee health records. Maintains confidentially as required by state and federal guidelines
  • Promotes an interdisciplinary approach to health care and promotes prevention-oriented, cost-effective health and safety programs
  • Provides appropriate case management
  • Manages all cases to facilitate productivity, assuring appropriate care and return to work
  • Includes workers’ compensation, short- and long-term disability cases
  • Assesses healthcare needs, then implement and manage healthcare programs to improve health and facilitate return to work, maintain OSHA records/reports and worker medical files
  • Assists departments with identifying, evaluating, and implementing accommodations and return to work options for workers with restricted duty
  • Collaborates with Environmental Health and Safety, Operations, and Human Resources to develop operations, programs, and services by providing content expertise.
