About The Position

The Registered Nurse Trainer is responsible for providing medical consultation services to clients and Direct Service Professional providers to insure the overall health and well-being of clients. This includes ensuring compliance to all state required training regarding health and safety, skills assessments, and medication administration, training all Direct Service Professionals in basic health and safety and medication administration, as well as for on-the-job sign-off for assigned components of basic health and safety and all medication for assigned staff/group homes. This involves allowing trained staff to administer medications to clients (per guidelines) on nursing license, as well as monitoring and oversight of medication administration/supervision of certified staff.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree (four-year college or technical school) Required, Field of Study: Nursing
  • 3 plus years of experience in IDD Nursing
  • Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, ADP, Evolv, Relias, Company Mileage, Order Connect, Internet search engines, eprescribe, EMAR,
  • State of Illinois Nursing License required.
  • Nurse Trainer Certificate required.
  • Illinois State Licensure required.
  • Must have and maintain a valid driver's license.
  • Must be able to meet agency driver safety requirement of carrying personal vehicle insurance with the following limits: $50,000 bodily injury, each person $100,000 bodily injury, each accident $50,000 property damage

Responsibilities

  • Serves as a member of the Community Support Team for assigned clients.
  • Ensures all assigned clients' case files are reviewed regarding medical issues.
  • Communicates with HSS to ensure all required appointments are made and appropriate paperwork completed.
  • Attend more complex medical appointments with clients
  • Provides appropriate entries into records and follow-up care and services to clients.
  • Mentor MCC and BSN nursing students.
  • Training ADSP's on Role 116 medication administration standards.
  • New hires two-day medication administration class, diabetes class.
  • Assists with annual med re-auth training
  • Complete CBTA of ADSP's in the group homes after initial medication class and during cross-training.
  • Medical follow-up and illness prevention for IDD residential clients.
  • Ongoing communication with families and guardians regarding client medical issues.
  • Uphold Rule 116 requirements in regard to group home medication administration.
  • Complete all required paperwork according to set guidelines and deadlines.
  • Complete monthly medication check-in.
  • Update medication authorization staff list and provide to group homes and residential management team.
  • Complete quarterly medication error report and follow up with any disciplinary action or retraining.
  • Participate in IDT meetings as requested for residential clients
  • Participate in on-call nursing calendar.
  • Develop preventative healthcare measures.
  • Visit assigned residential group homes for check-ins and monitor services provided as needed.
  • Attend house meetings at assigned homes
  • Provide training and/or retraining for DSP’s when needed
  • Performs all other duties as assigned by RN Manager.
  • Coordinate and assist with on-site doctors and clinics.
