The Neuro Critical Care Unit is a 14-bed Intensive Care Unit located in the Meijer Heart Center at Butterworth Hospital. As part of the Comprehensive Stroke Center, the largest stroke center in West Michigan, this unit specializes in the care of patients with stroke or other neurological conditions, including Hemorrhagic stroke, Ischemic stroke, seizures, and Hydrocephalus requiring critical care. The nursing staff operates as part of a collaborative team, working alongside nurse techs, intensivists, APPs, pharmacists, therapists, social workers, chaplains, and secretaries to provide specialized care. The unit fosters a culture of collaboration, kindness, teamwork, and learning, contributing to a low turnover rate among nurses who value their colleagues. Butterworth Hospital, the flagship hospital for Corewell Health Grand Rapids Hospitals, is a nationally recognized facility for patient quality and safety, located in the heart of Grand Rapids. Since 1873, it has established a reputation for excellence in care, diagnostics, treatment, prevention, and education. The Registered Nurse (RN) functions within the ANA scope of practice, utilizing the nursing process to provide professional nursing care. This includes patient-family centered care principles in assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation, and discharge. The RN delivers quality patient care under the direction of the Nurse Leader, adhering to Corewell Health policies and procedures. They recognize the impact of nursing care and patient/family partnerships on patient outcomes, incorporating patient/family input and goals into the plan of care and developing appropriate patient/family teaching strategies, which are documented in the health record.
