This position is for a Registered Nurse (RN) on the Medical Surgical (MS) unit at the Big Rapids Campus. The unit has 22 beds, and there is also a 4-bed critical care unit. This campus is described as an ideal place for new nurses to gain experience and grow their careers. The patient population is diverse, primarily consisting of hospitalist medicine patients with various diagnoses such as pneumonia, COPD, cellulitis, kidney failure, and bowel obstructions. These cases offer opportunities to develop acute care skills like IV placement, chest tube management, and NG tube placement/management. The critical care unit frequently handles high-acuity patients with conditions like sepsis, hyperglycemia, and respiratory failure, requiring management of medication drips (insulin, vasopressors) and the use of equipment such as ventilators and BIPAPs. The Big Rapids team is collaborative, working with an interdisciplinary team including hospitalists, care managers, social workers, pharmacy, nurse techs, physical therapists, and occupational therapists. The unit has experienced RNs who assist with onboarding new hires and graduates. Scheduling follows a six-week rotating core, allowing for advance planning to maintain work-life balance.
