About The Position

The MICU is an 18 bed adult critical care unit located at Blake 7. Nurses on the MICU care for a variety of complex respiratory and medical patients. Notable diagnosis includes but not limited to sepsis, gastrointestinal, genitourinary, heme-oncology, cardiac, neurology, and infectious diseases such as H1N1(2005), suspect Ebola virus (2014) and the novel Corona Virus (2020). The MICU culture can be best described for its teamwork and collaborative approach to care, embracing patient-centered care, and promoting staff professional development, and excellence in nursing.

Requirements

• Minimum of 3 years of med/surg experience, ICU experience preferred.
• Must be devoted to working as part of a patient care service team; strong patient care, staff development and a diverse workforce are paramount.
• Current licensure in Massachusetts as an RN is required.
• Familiarity with the principles and skills needed for practical nursing to provide patient care and treatment.
• Knowledgeable of the care required by respective age groups for which care is being provided.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and secure sensitive information.
• Knowledge of medical terminology.
• Excellent verbal and communication skills.
• Ability to accurately screen and triage acute patients.

Nice To Haves

• BSN is strongly preferred
• ACLS and CCRN certifications preferred.

Responsibilities

• Accountable for interpreting the plan of medical care, assessment of patients' clinical decision-making regarding nursing care, assuring nursing care is provided in a safe and competent manner, providing individualized nursing care, and evaluating nursing care for groups of patients.
• Maintain accurate, detailed reports, and records.
• Administer medications to patients and monitor patients for reactions or side effects.
• Record patients' medical information and vital signs.
• Monitor, record, and report symptoms or changes in patients' conditions.
• Consult and coordinate with healthcare team members to assess, plan, implement, or evaluate patient care plans.
• Modify patient treatment plans as indicated by patients' responses and conditions.
