About The Position

CHI Health St. Elizabeth is seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) for their Medical Surgical Oncology unit. This 42-bed unit cares for a diverse patient population with diagnoses including Orthopedic, Trauma, Spine and Neuro surgery, Surgical and Medical Oncology, pulmonary, renal, GI, and cardiac care. The unit has a rapidly growing oncology program and is committed to providing highly skilled care using ONS curriculum and standards of practice. They also provide post-surgical care with a focus on pain management, early mobilization, and patient and family-centered education. The care model emphasizes multidisciplinary teams including Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Dietary, Nutrition, Palliative Care, and innovative nursing models with LPN, C.N.A, and RN teams.

Requirements

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license that allows practice in the state.
  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) required.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience as a Registered Nurse preferred.
  • Specialty certification (ex: PCCN, CCRN, CNOR, CEN) preferred.
  • Additional certification or licensure may be required for some specialty areas.

Responsibilities

  • Clinically care for patients, remaining focused and attentive while continuously monitoring them throughout the shift.
  • Serve as a patient advocate, supporting their best interests.
  • Utilize sound judgment during emergencies and rapid responses.
  • Assess, plan, and implement nursing care while ensuring patient comfort.
  • Anticipate, identify, and respond to the informational and emotional needs of patients and families.
  • Guide and direct healthcare personnel (i.e., CNAs) in caring for patients.
  • Maintain knowledge of equipment setup, maintenance, and use (i.e., IV pumps, monitoring equipment, and drainage devices).
  • Utilize safeguards such as IV pump drug library and monitor alarms with necessary.
  • Initiate emergency support measures (i.e., cardiopulmonary resuscitation, protecting patient from injury).
  • Assist with patient care duties/tasks (i.e., emptying drainage devices, ambulating, and hygiene).
