About The Position

This is a Registered Nurse position in a Medical Surgical unit. The role requires a minimum of 2 years of experience in the last 5 years and accepts first-time travelers. Locals are accepted with a potential rate difference. The nurse must be proficient in various patient care skills including heparin drips, PCA, colostomy care, feeding tube care, blood product administration, central and peripheral line care, phlebotomy, PICC line management, and IV starts. Experience with managing dysrhythmias, O2 protocols, non-invasive airway management, isolation precautions, traumatic brain injuries, ortho trauma, surgical drains, chest tubes, nasal cannula, oral suctioning, tracheostomy management, and wound care is essential. Epic documentation experience is required. The unit utilizes Pyxis, EPIC, and SBAR for patient care and communication. Orientation includes 12 hours of unit-specific training and 16 hours of organizational education.

Requirements

  • Surgical drains.
  • Chest tubes- Emerson/Pleuravac.
  • Nasal Cannula.
  • Oral Suctioning.
  • Tracheostomy Management.
  • Wound care.
  • Epic documentation experience required.
  • BLS certification.
  • Comfortable with 1:5-6 patient ratios.
  • Willing to work 12HR NIGHTS, 36 or 48 hours.
  • Maximum 7 Days for RTO.
  • Willing to float to similar units and alternate care locations with inpatients.
  • Willing to work every other weekend.
  • Willing to be assigned to a Storm Team and/or Hurricane Team.
  • Willing to report to work during a catastrophic event, mass casualty or disaster.
  • Willing to consolidate to the Centralized Office mid-contract and be preassigned to units as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Take heparin drips.

  • Perform oral suctioning.
  • Manage tracheostomies.
  • Provide wound care.
  • Document using Epic.
  • Float to similar units and alternate care locations with inpatients.
  • Work every other weekend.
  • Be part of a Storm Team and/or Hurricane Team, potentially reporting to work during catastrophic events, mass casualties, or disasters.
  • Consolidate to the Centralized Office mid-contract and be preassigned to units as needed.
