About The Position

This is a full-time position for a Registered Nurse in Med Surge Services, working night shifts. The role requires a strong understanding of professional nursing practices, including medical and surgical asepsis, disease processes, and effective communication. The nurse will be responsible for care management, prioritizing tasks, analyzing problems, and implementing actions. They will also need to be proficient with specialized equipment for the assigned unit and build strong relationships with patients, families, physicians, and colleagues. Leadership abilities, accountability, active listening, and the ability to remain calm and prioritize in a busy acute care environment are essential. Adaptability to a diverse patient and staff population is also required.

Requirements

  • Basic nursing skills
  • Terminology, theory, techniques and practices of professional nursing including the normal conditions of the specialty to which assigned
  • Concepts of medical, surgical asepsis and disease processes
  • Effective communication skills in writing and speaking

  • Willing to be flexible, within reason, to meet the staffing needs of an assigned unit
  • Current Oregon RN license

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates and applies an in-depth knowledge of nursing principles, practices, standards, and techniques.
  • Applies nursing knowledge in accordance with corporate and procedures and adheres to policies and procedures of the department and Medical Center.
  • Maintains a current awareness of the abilities and limitations of each staff member and assigns duties appropriate to each individual.
  • Demonstrates patients plan of care by setting outcomes, follow through and documents progress/lack of progress and teaching efforts during every shift worked.
  • Assesses the patient and implements appropriate nursing actions to meet the patient’s physical, emotional, spiritual, social and intellectual needs; documents those needs with appropriate multidisciplinary approach, in a clear, concise, objective and legible way.
  • Maintains an active involvement in issues of cost containment at all times.
  • Demonstrates ability to identify and solve problems using critical thinking and professional judgment.
  • Demonstrates an ability to communicate effectively using pertinent data with physicians, patients, families and peers.
  • Demonstrates a positive role in evaluating, correcting and re-directing patient care staff as needed.

  • Involves patient and families in education and preparation for discharge.
  • Demonstrates the ability to prioritize and effectively utilize time management techniques.
  • Completes required hours of orthopedic education topics annually as directed by the Ortho Steering team for the Hip and Knee program certification.
  • Meets clinical competencies of hip and knee certification program in order to directly care for a Hip and Knee patient.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
