About The Position

This role involves providing direct patient care within a Medical-Surgical unit, utilizing the nursing process to ensure accurate and up-to-date patient records. The position requires a strong understanding of patient assessment, care planning, and communication with allied healthcare providers. Responsibilities include functioning as a charge nurse, demonstrating proficiency in nursing informatics, and serving as a resource person for patient care and staff orientation. The role also emphasizes participation in unit meetings, mandatory programs, and patient care assessment committees. Staff are expected to contribute to the identification and evaluation of care quality and safety, while also assessing their own learning needs and engaging in professional development. Representation of the hospital in the community and maintaining confidentiality are also key aspects of this position.

Requirements

  • Ability to read, write, and communicate in English
  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing
  • Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts
  • Current Basic Life Support certification (BLS)
  • Pass CCHC Pharmacology Exam prior to start date
  • Pass CCHC Basic Arrhythmia Exam prior to start date
  • Complete RN Residency & Transition (job code: 6004) within 3 months from start date
  • Med/Surg experience in an acute care facility within the last (2) two years

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing (BSN)
  • Experience in the management of cardiac patients
  • ACLS
  • Recent telemetry experience
  • Med/Surg. certification
  • Orthopedic certification

Responsibilities

  • Properly utilizes the nursing process in caring for patients by maintaining relevant, accurate and current patient records.
  • Provides documentation of assessment of the patient throughout the Hospital admission including physical, psychological, social dimensions and discharge plans.
  • Summarizes assessment data and initiate plan of care with communication of pertinent data to allied patient care providers.
  • Understands, assumes, and demonstrates proficiency in the role of charge nurse.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in Computerized Nursing Informatics (information systems).
  • Assumes role of resource person regarding patient care, orientation and teaching staff.
  • Participates in at least four-unit staff meetings per year, attends mandatory programs and obtains three hours of Patient Care Assessment Committee (PCAC) credit per year.
  • Participates in identification of the aspects of care for the patient, indicators used to monitor the quality and appropriateness of care, and the evaluation of that care.
  • Adheres to safety, blood/body fluid policies and procedures.
  • Assesses personal learning development needs.
  • Maintains documentation of current and ongoing professional development activities.
  • Regularly up-dates knowledge of techniques and regulations appropriate to the age of the patient served.
  • Shows a willingness to participate on Nursing Committees.
  • Represents hospital in the community and within the hospital by maintaining confidentiality regarding patients and hospital matters and by presenting the hospital in a manner that will best market the services provided.
  • Performs other work-related duties and activities as assigned or requested his/her immediate supervisor.
