About The Position

This position utilizes the nursing process to assess, plan, intervene, and evaluate patient care to achieve prioritized patient outcomes according to the RN scope of practice. The role involves collaborating with healthcare providers to coordinate medical and nursing management of patient care, performing emergency treatment as required, and maintaining accurate documentation. Effective communication, promotion of patient and staff safety, and potentially performing in a Lead Nurse capacity are key aspects of this role.

Ability to administer and perform nursing assessment in accordance with applicable patient types (Acute, Observation, ER, SNF and Outpatient).

Ability to respond to call lights and patient needs in a timely fashion.
Ability to recognize abnormal symptoms/changes in patient condition, establish priorities and take appropriate action.
Ability to serve as a patient advocate.
Ability to perform patient rounding for all patient assignments.
Ability to evaluate patient progress toward desired outcomes prior to discharge.
Demonstrates personal accountability in the delivery of patient care in a competent, professional and compassionate manner.
Ability to provide intravenous interventions.
Ability to collaborate with health care providers to coordinate medical and nursing management of patient care.
Ability to promote team concept through effective communication regarding patient condition, patient care plan and patient satisfaction.
Ability to work effectively with ancillary areas as part of the team approach to patient care.
Ability to direct patient support team members effectively and appropriately.
Demonstrates initiative and flexibility in the provision of patient care.
Ability to inform and involve Lead Nurse or Nurse Manager regarding patient care issues in a timely and appropriate manner.
Ability to assist in making patient assignments, coordinating admissions, and meeting staffing needs for unit.

Ability to complete patient and family education throughout the patient’s stay and at discharge.
Ability to perform emergency treatment as required in accordance with RN scope of practice.
Ability to initiate or assist in patient care in an effective and responsive manner as each situation requires.
Ability to triage each emergency situation appropriately and involve other resources as appropriate.
Ability to administer and perform emergent care in accordance with applicable patient population type (newborn to geriatrics).
Ability to follow emergency policies, procedures and protocols in an effective manner.
Ability to document accurate and ongoing assessments of patient status that reflect nursing interventions, patient responses, patient teaching and status of outcomes at discharge.
Ability to complete shift end check prior to leaving duty.
Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with other health team members regarding patient condition, nursing plan of care, patient satisfaction needs and recommendations for meeting identified outcomes.
Ability to follow approved shift report format when communicating patient information.
Ability to identify and recognize abnormal symptoms/changes in patient condition, established priorities, and take appropriate action.
Ability to appropriately report condition changes to medical provider.
Ability to administer medications, treatments and procedures in a timely and safe manner according to health care provider orders and nursing policy.
Ability to perform standard precautions, use two patient identifiers, and perform patient risk assessments every shift.
Ability to utilize proper body mechanics, transfer and lifting techniques to minimize fall risk to patient and injury to self.
Ability to implement infectious disease controls as appropriate including isolation procedures, proper use of hand hygiene and gloves.
Ability to follow proper procedures for wasting narcotics and disposal of sharps and hazardous materials.
Ability to perform in a Lead Nurse capacity, as assigned or requested by department leader.
Ability to oversee care delivery and staffing needs and assignments on the nursing unit.
Ability to provide secure pharmacy coverage.
Demonstrates knowledge of treatments, policies/procedures, and equipment.
Ability to respond to Patient/Family concerns and provide immediate interventions when possible.
Ability to adapt to changes in workload and complete assignments while maintaining quality care.
