About The Position

This position utilizes the nursing process to assess, plan, intervene, and evaluate patient care to achieve prioritized patient outcomes according to the RN scope of practice. The role involves collaborating with healthcare providers to coordinate medical and nursing management of patient care, performing emergency treatment as required, and maintaining accurate documentation. Effective communication, promotion of patient and staff safety, and potentially performing in a Lead Nurse capacity are key aspects of this role.

  • Ability to complete shift end check prior to leaving duty.
  • Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with other health team members regarding patient condition, nursing plan of care, patient satisfaction needs and recommendations for meeting identified outcomes.
  • Ability to follow approved shift report format when communicating patient information.
  • Ability to identify and recognize abnormal symptoms/changes in patient condition, established priorities, and take appropriate action.
  • Ability to appropriately report condition changes to medical provider.
  • Ability to administer medications, treatments and procedures in a timely and safe manner according to health care provider orders and nursing policy.
  • Ability to perform standard precautions, use two patient identifiers, and perform patient risk assessments every shift.
  • Ability to utilize proper body mechanics, transfer and lifting techniques to minimize fall risk to patient and injury to self.
  • Ability to implement infectious disease controls as appropriate including isolation procedures, proper use of hand hygiene and gloves.
  • Ability to follow proper procedures for wasting narcotics and disposal of sharps and hazardous materials.
  • Ability to perform in a Lead Nurse capacity, as assigned or requested by department leader.
  • Ability to oversee care delivery and staffing needs and assignments on the nursing unit.
  • Ability to provide secure pharmacy coverage.
