About The Position

This position involves utilizing the nursing process to care for patients, maintaining accurate patient records, and participating in quality assessment activities. The role requires effective communication, documentation of patient assessments, and collaboration with allied healthcare providers. Responsibilities include functioning as a charge nurse, demonstrating proficiency in nursing informatics, and serving as a resource person for patient care and staff orientation. The position also involves participation in unit staff meetings, mandatory programs, and patient care assessment committees. Adherence to safety policies and procedures, including those related to blood and body fluids, is essential. Continuous professional development, updating knowledge of techniques and regulations, and willingness to participate in nursing committees are expected. The role also requires representing the hospital positively in the community and within the institution by maintaining confidentiality and marketing hospital services. Other work-related duties as assigned by the supervisor are also part of the role.

Requirements

Ability to read, write, and communicate in English
Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing
Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts
Current Basic Life Support certification
Pass CCHC Pharmacology Exam prior to start date
Pass CCHC Basic Arrhythmia Exam prior to start date
RN Residency & Transition (job code: 6004), must be completed within 3 months from start date
Med/Surg experience in an acute care facility within the last (2) two years
Per Diem: (2) Two years previous acute care med/surg experience required
North 3 (Cardiac unit): Telemetry experience required
North 3 (Cardiac unit): Obtain ACLS – Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification within 6 months (offered within)
North 3 (Cardiac unit): Complete PCI (Cardiac Cath) Course within 3 months (offered within)

Nice To Haves

Bachelor’s degree in nursing (BSN)
Experience in the management of cardiac patients
ACLS, recent telemetry experience, Med/Surg. certification
North 3 (Cardiac unit): Experience managing post Cardiac Surgery/telemetry patients and post Cardiac Intervention patients including femoral sheath monitoring
North 3 (Cardiac unit): Experience with post Cardiac Cath and post pacer patients

Responsibilities

Properly utilizes the nursing process in caring for patients by maintaining relevant, accurate and current patient records as evidenced by Nursing PI activities.
Provides documentation of assessment of the patient throughout the Hospital admission including physical, psychological, social dimensions and discharge plans. Summarizes assessment data and initiate plan of care with communication of pertinent data to allied patient care providers as evidenced by Nursing PI activities.
Understands, assumes, and demonstrates proficiency in the role of charge nurse.
Demonstrates proficiency in Computerized Nursing Informatics (information systems).
Assumes role of resource person regarding patient care, orientation and teaching staff.
Participates in at least four-unit staff meetings per year, attends mandatory programs and obtains three hours of Patient Care Assessment Committee (PCAC) credit per year.
Participates in identification of the aspects of care for the patient, indicators used to monitor the quality and appropriateness of care, and the evaluation of that care. Adheres to safety, blood/body fluid policies and procedures.
Assesses personal learning development needs. Maintains documentation of current and ongoing professional development activities. Regularly up-dates knowledge of techniques and regulations appropriate to the age of the patient served. Shows a willingness to participate on Nursing Committees.
Represents hospital in the community and within the hospital by maintaining confidentiality regarding patients and hospital matters and by presenting the hospital in a manner that will best market the services provided.
Performs other work-related duties and activities as assigned or requested his/her immediate supervisor.
