4 Medical is a 25-bed unit with 11 private rooms and 7 semi-private. The nursing ratio is 5:1 on days and 5-6:1 on nights, with nurses occasionally having 1 total care patient. The unit sees a wide variety of patients, with a primary focus on stroke patients who don't need TPA, comfort care, or hospice. It also receives different post-operative patients, including those with amputations, drains, chest tubes, and feeding tubes. The unit handles heparin drips, wound care, altered mental status, CIWA patients, AKI, dialysis, and COPD exacerbations.
