About The Position

8 South Oncology is a 44-bed, adult inpatient unit focused on the complex clinical and psychosocial needs of the Oncology patient population. Nurses on this unit care for patients experiencing various stages and complications from hematology/oncology diagnosis, ranging from newly diagnosed to end-of-life care. The unit offers opportunities to develop critical thinking and assessment skills while managing high-acuity patients, including the latest chemotherapy and biotherapy regimens, blood product administrations, pain management, and central line care. In addition to technical skills, 8 South provides a unique environment to build strong relationships with patients and their families throughout their treatment journey. Royal Oak Hospital is recognized by U.S. News & World Report as a top hospital in Michigan and the country, serving as a major academic and referral center with Level I adult and Level II pediatric trauma designations. It has achieved Magnet designation four consecutive times and houses Michigan’s first Diagnostic Imaging Center of Excellence.

Requirements

  • Associates or Diploma in Nursing Required.
  • Bachelors in Nursing Required within 5 years for GN or RN with less than 1 year of experience.
  • Graduates from a non-accredited school of nursing must have at least one year of acute care experience or at least two years of experience in a licensed health care role and must have successfully passed the NCLEX licensure examination.
  • MI Registered Nurse (RN) Required within 60 days of hire.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) required upon hire from one of the following organizations - American Heart Association, American Red Cross, or Canadian Heart and Stroke.

Responsibilities

  • Utilizes the framework of the nursing process to provide professional nursing care by incorporating patient-family centered care principles to assess, plan, implement, evaluate, and discharge.
  • Provides quality patient care under the direction of the Nurse Leader according to Corewell Health policies and procedures.
  • Recognizes the impact of nursing care and patient/family partnerships on patient outcomes.
  • Partners with and utilizes patient/family input and goals in planning plan of care.
  • Develops teaching strategies for patient/family and documents education and learning appropriately in health record.
