About The Position

Boston Health Care for the Homeless Program is seeking a Registered Nurse Manager to join their respite leadership team. This role involves coordinating and expediting clinical operations of a multi-disciplinary team to ensure an exceptional patient experience. The RN Manager will facilitate appropriate responses to patient access and needs, manage immediate operational needs of the practice, supervise and direct the interdisciplinary team, and develop collaborative relationships to advance patient care. BHCHP's mission is to provide unconditionally equitable and dignified access to high-quality healthcare for individuals and families experiencing homelessness in greater Boston. They care for over 10,000 homeless individuals annually, offering comprehensive healthcare services from preventative dental care to cancer treatment across more than 30 locations. Requirements

  • Commonwealth of Massachusetts RN license
  • Graduate of an approved school of nursing
  • 3-5 years nursing experience preferred
  • Leadership experience in nursing or related field preferred
  • Experience working with underserved population preferred
  • Continually updates clinical knowledge and skills through formal and informal education and review of the current literature
  • Must be able to work well independently
  • Must have sound decision making skills
  • Must work effectively with colleagues when required to make and facilitate complex decisions

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates and expedites clinical operations, including directing, delegating, and monitoring the quality of care delivered by the healthcare team.
  • Functions within and across interdisciplinary teams to promote coordination, mutual respect, and timely response to patient healthcare needs.
  • Recognizes the impact of systems on healthcare delivery and facilitates the development of workflows and pathways that ensure care coordination across all settings, with attention to transitional needs.
  • Facilitates huddles, promotes and models effective, respectful communication, and utilizes critical thinking for problem-solving and decision-making.
  • Identifies and evaluates operational clinical needs and resolves concerns early.
  • Occasionally participates on committees or broader organizational initiatives as required.
  • Role models and facilitates change within the healthcare team to respond to emerging practice and organizational needs.
  • Fosters and implements innovative thinking to create alternative solutions.
  • Manages all resources to support optimal care of respite patients, telephonically and electronically, including Epic, MatrixCare, and other care delivery models.
  • Models and promotes healthcare team building and leadership skills.
  • Applies leadership skills to facilitate effective team functioning and operations of the department.
  • Develops strong collaborative relationships across roles and departments to ensure timely access to address emerging patient needs.
  • Provides clinical oversight and support to respite nursing department staff in collaboration with the Nursing and Medical Directors.
  • Manages changes in Nurse/Respite Aide staffing schedules and adjusts resources to meet patient care and operational needs.
  • Authorizes hours worked by respite nursing department staff, including overtime, and is the direct recipient of sick and tardy calls for clinical staff.
  • Assumes accountability for performance evaluation of RNs and Respite Aides under the direction of the DON/ADON.
  • Participates in the selection and supervision of staff, mentors new staff, and assists with orientation and staff development needs.
  • Communicates with the Facilities Manager for building/maintenance/housekeeping concerns, including appropriate leadership personnel if necessary.
  • Provides leadership in the absence of the DON and acts as de facto site administrator during off shifts and evenings, collaborating with security, facilities, and administration as needed.
  • Collaborates with Quality RN, Clinical Nurse Educator, and Respite Leadership in setting quality standards for nursing care and developing relevant policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrates the ability to analyze, synthesize, and apply data to drive optimal care delivery outcomes.
  • Provides evidence-based, clinically competent nursing care in a culturally sensitive manner.
  • Performs all clinical tasks and responsibilities of the Respite RN as permitted by licensure, scope, and institutional policy.
  • Performs skilled nursing tasks competently and demonstrates operational knowledge of procedures and equipment.
  • Screens referrals for admissions by managing the electronic medical record work queue (Epic) and considers acuity when assigning new admissions to clinical teams.
  • Demonstrates technological literacy in using computerized information systems.
  • Facilitates and oversees staff use of healthcare technologies.
  • Accesses, evaluates, and uses data and information from a wide range of resources.
