About The Position

This position provides effective leadership and direction for the overall operations of the nursing department, ensuring that safe and quality patient care is provided in accordance with regulatory standards, facility and DBHDS policies, all applicable laws, and best practices. The role involves developing and approving nursing standards of care, policies and procedures, programs designed to measure, assess, and improve outcomes, and comprehensive staffing plans. The position participates with executive and clinical leaders in decision-making and strategic planning, promoting an environment that fosters mutual respect, ongoing learning, and supports patient recovery. The RN Manager II-CNE actively participates as a member of the facility Executive Leadership, Clinical Leadership, and Senior Leadership Teams, evaluates the delivery of services for accountability and improvement, and organizes staff and resources for efficient performance and nursing care. This role provides guidance when interpreting and implementing the hospital’s mission, goals, and objectives.

Requirements

  • Comprehensive knowledge of and clinical experience in the principles, practices, and standards of psychiatric nursing.
  • Executive leadership skills with demonstrated ability to engage in the effective strategic planning, organizing, directing, and evaluating services.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage a nursing department in providing comprehensive treatment to psychiatric patients in a facility setting.
  • Considerable knowledge of and experience with administrative practices and procedures, including program planning, implementation, and management; budget development; and management / supervision of nursing staff.
  • Experience with implementing nursing standards in accordance with regulatory guidelines and in performance improvement processes.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to effectively use an electronic health record and technology.
  • Knowledge of Infection Prevention and Control processes and requirements.
  • Extensive knowledge of performance improvement principles.
  • Ability to deal effectively with professional & non-professional personnel within & outside the facility by identifying commonalties, building consensus, and focusing on resolving problems.
  • Extensive knowledge of nursing management.
  • Ability to interpret governing directives and effectively integrate nursing services.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish working systems and processes and to develop and involve others.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage change, deal with ambiguity, and make timely decisions based on sound analysis of complex issues.
  • Extensive knowledge of the current complexities of the health care industry, expertise in budgeting, trend variance analysis, strategic planning, marketing, and an understanding of information technology, as well as political and economic skills.

  • Concentration in psychiatric nursing or mental health nursing.
  • Clinical, administrative, and management experience in a psychiatric hospital setting.
  • Advanced degree in psychiatric mental health nursing, or nursing administration.
