About The Position

The overall purpose of the Registered Nurse/LPN position is to participate in and oversee the assurance of the provision of resident care services consistent with accepted standards of care and as prescribed by the attending physician. The Registered Nurse/LPN also provides direct resident care and assigns duties to nursing assistants as appropriate.

Requirements

  • RN or LPN license in Iowa.
  • Supervisory class is required in the State of Iowa for nursing home facilities.
  • Must possess patience, tact, enthusiasm, and a cheerful disposition.
  • Must possess the knowledge, skill, and empathy necessary to work with geriatric residents and their families.
  • Must be able to continually articulate clearly and precisely and communicate with persons of varying backgrounds.
  • Flexibility and innovative thinking focused on total quality improvements.
  • Must possess the mental and physical capabilities to fulfill the duties of this position.
  • Willingness to be open to learning and growing.
  • Maturity of judgment and behavior.

  • Must be able to work nights, weekends, and some holidays.

  • Must be able to sit, stand, stoop, bend and walk intermittently during the workday.
  • Frequently pushes/pulls residents weighing 75-250 lbs. in wheelchairs and Geri chairs.
  • Must be able to hear and distinguish normal sounds with background noise ranging from conversational levels to high pitch sounding alarms, while using phones, radios, etc.
  • Able to smell smoke or chemicals.
  • Exposure to blood, body tissue and other potentially infectious fluids.
  • Exposure to sudden fluctuations in temperature.
  • Exposure to dust, bodily injury, loud or unpleasant noise and odors.
  • All employees are expected to respond to emergency situations involving the safety of residents, other employees, and the facility.
  • This includes the ability to assist with a possible evacuation of residents.

Nice To Haves

  • Nursing experience in a long-term care facility is preferred.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule helpful.

Responsibilities

  • Assures resident care according to accepted standards.
  • Observes, assesses, and reports resident condition/changes and documents.
  • Receives, transcribes, and implements physician’s orders.
  • Implements and evaluates care plans.
  • Identifies and secures equipment supplies.
  • Directs and oversees subordinates.
  • Participates in duty assignment.
  • Organizes and coordinates subordinates, job tasks, and time allotments.
  • Oversees and monitors functions and activities of subordinate staff.
  • Monitors infection control compliance.
  • Investigates and documents accidents and incidents.
  • Encourages safety to prevent accidents.
  • Assures equipment safety.
  • Demonstrates competency in skills mandated by required education and training.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
