About The Position

This position is for a Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) working a 7a-7p Baylor schedule, which includes every weekend and one weekday shift. The role involves direct patient care, medication administration, documentation, and collaboration with physicians and other healthcare professionals. The nurse will be responsible for ensuring residents receive timely and appropriate care, including treatments, medications, and assistance with daily living activities. Specific duties vary slightly depending on the shift, with responsibilities including medication management, charting, coordinating with pharmacy and dietary departments, and supervising Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs). The position also requires maintaining good communication with supervisors and other departments, and performing various bedside care tasks to ensure resident comfort and quality of life.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
  • Licensed by the State of South Carolina Board of Nursing by examination or reciprocity.

  • IV therapy certification (to start IVs, give IV antibiotics, perform IV push, mix meds for LPN).

Responsibilities

  • Make daily assignments if in charge of the shift.
  • Make rounds with outgoing nurse and receive reports on residents' condition.
  • Administer medications as scheduled.
  • Perform scheduled treatments.
  • Complete daily and PRN documentation.
  • Complete incident reports and behavior monitor logs.
  • Notify MD for any changes in residents' status or abnormal labs.
  • Receive and transcribe physician's orders.
  • Request lab work, schedule X-rays, and doctor's appointments.
  • Notify responsible party for incidents, changes in condition, or appointments.
  • Make transportation arrangements for residents.
  • Document weights and report significant changes to dietary (3pm-11pm shift).
  • Receive, check, and sign deliveries from pharmacy.
  • Chart vital signs (11pm-7am shift).
  • Check and have MARs and treatment books ready for the next month.
  • Fax orders to pharmacy on Saturday, Tuesday, and Thursday.
  • Check emergency carts and expiration dates on multidose vials daily.
  • Defrost and clean refrigerators and med carts (11pm-7am shift on Sundays).
  • Make copies of daily worksheet and midnight census and distribute.
  • Ensure CNAs perform assigned tasks according to facility standards.
  • Assist with call lights.
  • Discipline CNAs according to the Employees' Code of Conduct.
  • Handle call-ins and fill in shifts.
  • Assist in admitting and discharging residents.
  • Start IVs, give IV antibiotics, perform IV push, and mix meds for LPN (if IV certified).
  • Ensure dietary supplements and bedtime snacks are given to residents in a timely manner.
  • Perform all aspects of bedside care for resident comfort and quality of life.
  • Assess for resident death per doctor's order (may perform).
  • Develop good working relationships with other departments.
  • Communicate with DON, ADON, supervisors, and MDS Coordinator regarding residents' care.
  • Work well with physical, occupational, and speech therapies.
  • Perform other routine and special functions as assigned or necessary.
  • Follow chain of command.
