We are seeking dedicated RNs and LPNs to deliver high-quality patient care at our Suffolk House of Correction and Nashua Street Jail locations. The RN and LPN will manage patient care through assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation while directing and guiding patient teaching, activities, and ancillary personnel in alignment with professional nursing standards.

Requirements

  • Graduate from a national or state approved school of vocational nursing.
  • Currently licensed to practice as an RN or LPN in the state of Massachusetts.
  • Demonstrate the knowledge and ability to apply principles of nursing care.
  • Recognition of signs and symptoms of mental illness, emotional disturbance, or chemical dependency.
  • Holds current CPR certification.

Responsibilities

  • Assess the physical, psychological, and social needs of patients.
  • Obtain health histories and apply clinical knowledge to evaluate conditions.
  • Provide written assessments upon admission, during confinement, and at discharge.
  • Summarize data and make triage decisions communicated to care providers.
  • Develop individualized treatment plans using approved protocols.
  • Coordinate referrals to appropriate providers within the Medical Department.
  • Consult with nurses, physicians, and correctional staff as needed.
  • Administer medications, including IV therapy, in accordance with physician orders.
  • Conduct diagnostic tests and communicate results to ancillary departments.
  • Implement nutrition and therapeutic diet plans as ordered.
  • Document nursing encounters using SOAP charting.
  • Communicate patient information to staff, physicians, and department heads.
  • Identify and address existing or potential issues in patient care.
  • Recommend improvements in procedures, equipment, and supplies.
  • Assist with staff education and in-service training.
  • Foster a positive, team-oriented work environment.
  • Adhere to CPS policies, state practice acts, and Code of Ethics for Nurses.
  • Participate in quality assurance and chart review processes.
  • Accept additional duties or shifts as assigned.
  • Follow all security rules and regulations.
