The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) is responsible for applying vocational nursing skills and techniques to patients of the appropriate age for their assigned unit. The LPN functions under the supervision of a Registered Nurse and performs assigned patient care tasks, adhering to the established policies of the health care system and reflecting the hospital's philosophy and the nursing department's mission. The Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for planning, supervising, and evaluating patient nursing care, and for correlating the nursing process, the medical plan of care, and policies. Highlands Medical Center is a 170-bed hospital in Scottsboro, offering emergency, inpatient, and outpatient services. It is part of the Huntsville Hospital Health System and is accredited by the Joint Commission. The system also includes various owned entities across the community, such as Highlands Family Medicine, Highlands Home Health, and two rehabilitation and long-term care nursing homes.
