About The Position

Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) perform basic nursing functions such as changing bandages and wound dressings. They comfort patients and ensure basic needs like food and fluid intake are met. LPNs may also administer medications depending on institutional and state standards. This role is within an Ortho Clinic and is incentive eligible.

Requirements

Graduate from an accredited school of practical nursing.
Current Licensed Practical Nurse license in the State of Missouri or Graduate Practical Nurse eligible for examination with valid permit.
Class C Basic Life Support (CPR) within 90 days of employment and renewed biannually.
Must adhere to NRMC appearance and attire policy.
Job classifications in which employees have only occasional occupational exposure to human blood and other potentially infectious materials, which may result in possible exposure to blood borne pathogens.
Job classification in which employee has direct access to PHI. Will receive job specific training concerning confidentiality of PHI.

Nice To Haves

One year of general, acute Medical/Surgical Nursing or Skilled Nursing preferred.

Responsibilities

Providing basic bedside care such as dressing wounds, changing bandages, inserting catheters, and giving injections.
Taking the patient's vital signs such as respiration, temperature, blood pressure, and heart rate.
Entering patient data into computer systems.
Interviewing patients and examining their medical history.
Informing patients about doctor's orders or test results via mail or call.
Assisting registered nurses and other superior nurses in developing the best care plan for patients.
Helping patients understand documentation or paperwork.
Talking to patients about their present problems, allergies, medications, and keeping an eye on their medical records.
Accomplishing scheduled immunizations, visual acuity testing, nebulizer treatments, and regulating TB tests.
Talking to patients and their families about their treatment plan, tests, and diagnoses.
Starting, monitoring, or discontinuing intravenous catheters or intravenous fluids.
Taking verbal orders from the MD (Doctor of Medicine).
Aiding in phlebotomy: analyzing patients, looking over the requisition form for requested tests, and setting up equipment, patient, and puncture site.
Assisting in IV set-ups: validating solution to be regulated, analyzing infusion site, keeping track of IV function and patient comfort, and terminating IV at an appropriate time, as ordered by MD.
Undertaking various office responsibilities: answering calls, replying to messages, and executing triage within the scope of licensed practical nursing practice accurately and precisely.
Helping to coordinate patient referrals.
Taking part in the training and orientation of new employees.
