About The Position

Responsible for rendering professional advanced emergency medical and critical care to ill or injured patients in collaboration with a Paramedic partner and medical control in the transport environment. Provides patient focused care within the protocols, policies, and procedures of LifeFlight. Provides professional emergency care in accordance with Pennsylvania prehospital protocols. Active involvement with Quality Improvement initiatives. Provides critical care life support and medical care for the population served according to established standards and protocols and PA DOH regulations. Collaborates within a multidisciplinary team to establish an appropriate plan of care to safely transport acutely ill or injured patients from presentation to disposition. Provides for safe transport of patients. Monitors and promotes safety of self and others while working in and around the aircraft/emergency vehicles. Serves as an ambassador of LifeFlight by demonstrating positive professional appearance, language, and conduct within the AHN core behaviors and standards of conduct. Participate in LifeFlight quality assurance activities including chart audits, case reviews, and monthly Team and Safety meetings. Actively participates in LEAN principles/activities. Completes all annual education requirements and training. Completes required documentation according to departmental and PA state regulatory standards. Maintains expected state of transport readiness by maintaining medication and supply inventory in the aircraft by completing shift checks and restocking equipment and supplies. Maintains storage of medications within established safety and security controls. Other duties as assigned. Ability to pass pre-employment physical exam and meet height and weight requirements.

Requirements

  • Minimum five (5) years recent Emergency/ICU/Flight Registered Nurse experience within a level 1 or level 2 trauma center, or tertiary center designated as acceptable by the LifeFlight Medical Director; OR 2 years AHN Critical Care Transport RN experience; OR LifeFlight FP-C transitioning to RN must have the equivalent of 5 years RN experience.
  • For candidates with LifeFlight paramedic experience, 2 years of experience as a LifeFlight paramedic will be considered equivalent to 1 year of Registered Nurse experience, with a maximum of six (6) years of LifeFlight paramedic experience being equivalent to three (3) years of Registered Nurse experience. All candidates under this option must have a minimum of 2 years of RN ICU experience at an ICU within a level 1 or level 2 trauma center or tertiary center designated as acceptable by the LifeFlight Medical Director.
  • Current State of PA RN licensure OR Current multi-state licensure through the enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact (eNLC).
  • BLS, ACLS and PALS certification
  • Must meet and maintain height and weight restrictions
  • Act 34 Criminal Background Clearance Certificate
  • Act 33 Child Abuse Clearance Certificate
  • Act 73 FBI Fingerprinting Criminal Background Clearance Certificate

Nice To Haves

  • PA PHRN certification required within 1 year of hire
  • CFRN Certification required within 18 months of hire
  • PHTLS or ITLS required within 1 year of hire
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program required within 1 year of hire
