About The Position

The Registered Nurse (RN) will provide direct patient care as an RN. This professional nursing role will require the ability to coordinate care for patients, triage patients, and work collaboratively with clinic providers, fellows, and staff. Requires the ability to effectively work with patient referral sources, facilitate appointments, coordinate transitions of care, and provide patient education on complex conditions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing, Associate’s degree in Nursing, Diploma RN, or Master’s degree in Nursing.
  • Must be a graduate of an accredited RN nursing program.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of Registered Nursing experience; OR Must be accepted into the UAMS New Graduate RN Residency Program.
  • Valid Registered Nursing License
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Strong work ethics and accountability
  • Proof of legal authority to work in the United States on the first day of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Provides comprehensive lactation assessment, education, and support to postpartum patients and their families.
  • Assists mothers with breastfeeding techniques, positioning, latch, and milk expression.
  • Develops individualized feeding plans based on maternal and infant needs.
  • Identifies and manage common breastfeeding challenges (e.g., latch difficulties, low milk supply, engorgement).
  • Educates patients on benefits of breastfeeding and evidence-based lactation practices.
  • Supports initiation and maintenance of breastfeeding in high-risk populations, including NICU patients.
  • Collaborates with physicians, nurses, and multidisciplinary teams to coordinate patient care.
  • Documents patient care, education, and outcomes accurately in the electronic medical record.
  • Provides instruction on use and care of breast pumps and related equipment.
  • Promotes Baby-Friendly practices and adherence to hospital breastfeeding policies.
  • Participates in discharge planning and ensure continuity of lactation support after discharge.
  • Offers outpatient lactation consultations and follow-up support as needed.
  • Maintains current knowledge of lactation science and best practices through continuing education.
  • Serves as a resource and educator for staff regarding breastfeeding support and policies.
  • Ensures compliance with hospital, state, and regulatory guidelines related to lactation services.
  • May perform other duties as assigned.
