Facilitates the development of policies which protect, promote, and support breastfeeding; acts as an advocate for breastfeeding and provides evidence-based breastfeeding support and care from preconception to weaning for women and their families. Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
• 2 years of experience in maternal-child health nursing.
• Current registered nurse (RN) license in the state of practice.
• International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC).
• Proficiency in using computers, software, and web-based applications.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills and ability to present information clearly and professionally.
• Strong interpersonal skills.

Nice To Haves

• Bachelor’s degree in nursing.
• 3 years of experience in lactation consulting.

Responsibilities

• Oversees and coordinates lactating patient needs by providing up-to-date and accurate information and appropriate lactation assistance, applying age specific knowledge that’s relevant to the care of the patient.
• Provides anticipatory guidance to promote best breastfeeding practices and minimize the potential for breastfeeding problems or complications.
• Conducts quality assurance programs to monitor the caliber of the program and maintains appropriate consult documentation and statistics.
• Evaluates products related to lactation and makes recommendations regarding their benefits to patients.
• Provides information for access to breastfeeding equipment and devices appropriate for the lactating mother and breastfeeding infant.
• Adapts behavior to the specific patient population, including but not limited to respect for privacy, method of introduction to the patient, adapting explanation of services or procedures to be performed, requesting permissions and communication style.
• Performs other related duties as required.
• Remains knowledgeable on current federal, state and local laws, accreditation standards or regulatory agency requirements that apply to the assigned area of responsibility and ensures compliance with all such laws, regulations and standards.
