About The Position

This Labor and Delivery Unit performs approximately 750 deliveries per year for gestations greater than 34 weeks. The role includes rotation to the Special Care Nursery unit. This LDRP model unit provides 24/7 in-house pediatric and obstetric physician coverage. Farmington Hills Hospital is recognized by U.S. News and World Report as a high-performing facility and is a Magnet-designated hospital for nursing excellence. It has been a Level II trauma center since 1965 and serves as the base teaching hospital for Michigan State University. The RN, utilizing the ANA scope of practice and the nursing process, provides professional nursing care within a patient-family centered care framework. This includes assessing, planning, implementing, evaluating, and discharging patients. The RN delivers quality patient care under the direction of the Nurse Leader, adhering to Corewell Health policies and procedures, and recognizes the impact of nursing care and patient/family partnerships on outcomes. The RN collaborates with patients and families, incorporating their input and goals into the plan of care, and develops and documents patient/family teaching strategies.

Requirements

  • Associates in Nursing Required
  • Bachelors in Nursing Required within 5 years if new graduate/nurse with less than one (1) year RN experience.
  • Graduates from a non-accredited school of nursing must have at least one year of acute care experience or at least two years of experience in a licensed health care role and must have successfully passed the NCLEX licensure examination.
  • MI Registered Nurse (RN) required or if new grad within 60 days of hire
  • AHA, ARC, or Canadian Heart and Stroke Basic Life Support (BLS) required upon hire/transfer
  • NRP within 6 months of hire/transfer
  • EFM Electronic Fetal Monitoring Certification within 1 year
  • Not considering graduate nurses at this time.

Nice To Haves

  • Specialty Certification highly recommended within 2 years
  • Prefer at least 1 year of ER, ICU, or MBC RN experience or 2 years of M/S RN experience.
  • Highly prefer at least 1 year of L&D RN experience.

Responsibilities

  • Incorporates patient-family centered care principles to assess, plan, implement, evaluate, and discharge.
  • Provides quality patient care under the direction of the Nurse Leader.
  • Partners with and utilizes patient/family input and goals in planning plan of care.
  • Develops teaching strategies for patient/family.
  • Documents education and learning appropriately in health record.
  • Rotation to the Special Care Nursery unit.
