About The Position

This position requires candidates who can effectively function in a high-risk labor and delivery unit while managing a high patient census. The role involves providing competent and appropriate nursing care, demonstrating strong assessment and clinical skills, and maintaining accurate documentation. The nurse will be responsible for patient education, ensuring patient satisfaction, and adhering to safety protocols. This role also includes specific duties related to Pre-Admission Testing (PAT) for surgical patients.

Requirements

  • Must be able to effectively function in a high-risk labor and delivery unit.
  • Must be able to manage a high patient census.
  • ACLS - Required
  • BLS - Required
  • RN License - Required
  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing

Responsibilities

  • Performs thorough, systematic, comprehensive, and accurate patient assessments, demonstrating competent knowledge of growth and development across all age groups.
  • Consistently demonstrates competent clinical skills, performing direct patient care activities and providing appropriate nursing care to the unit's patient population.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and skill of emergency equipment and procedures.
  • Maintains complete and accurate documentation, including patient education, in the patient's chart.
  • Demonstrates professional practice responsibility, knowledge of policies and procedures, and identifies areas for clinical and professional growth.
  • Responds to patients, families, and co-workers in a professional, courteous, and positive manner to promote a patient-centered environment.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality according to HIPPA guidelines.
  • Consistently follows National Patient Safety Goals, including Universal Protocol and patient identification using two identifiers.
  • Demonstrates safe transfer techniques and proper body mechanics for self and patients.
  • Assesses patient reaction and understanding of surgical procedures/instructions, individualizing care based on procedure and anesthesia.
  • Contributes to the perioperative team by assuming responsibility and accountability for directing patient care, prioritizing based on patient needs and condition changes.
  • Assesses patient's understanding of surgical procedure/instructions, actively involving the patient and family in teaching.
  • Performs pre-operative and post-operative assessment and education.
  • Supports the timely completion of patient testing.
  • Evaluates Pre Admission Testing (PAT) orders for appropriateness and potential omissions based on proposed surgery, patient age, and health status.
