About The Position

Demonstrates through behavior Decatur Morgan Hospital’s mission, vision and values. Provides quality nursing care to the patients in the Imaging Services department. Identifies patient needs and priorities for care and the attainment of /or progress towards patient outcomes. Coordinates care between other professional disciplines as needed. Under the direction of the radiology director and supervising radiologists. The IR RN is responsible for the efficiency and effectiveness of all nursing duties required within the Imaging department. The following statements reflect the general duties considered necessary to describe the principle functions of the job as identified and shall not be considered as a detailed description of all the work requirements, which may be inherent in the position. Commitment to the delivery of competent patient care supported by lines of communications and coordination with physicians, patients and co-workers. Performs a variety of technical and clinical procedures that will require independent judgement, with ingenuity and initiative to provide patient care. Assumes responsibility for designated areas or procedures as required.

Requirements

  • Graduation of Accredited Nursing Program
  • Current Alabama Board of Nursing License
  • BLS
  • ACLS
  • Minimum of five-year clinical experience in direct patient care setting.
  • Conscious / Moderate Sedation
  • Must have excellent communication skills with the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment, requiring prioritizing and changing task frequently and quickly.
  • Must be able to work in a team environment.
  • Must be able to use a computer terminal, fax machine, and copy machine.
  • Must be able to lead a group of team members on a daily basis.
  • Willingness and able to effectively coach and mentor less experienced team members.

Nice To Haves

  • ED/ICU/CCU experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Initiates assessment based on the patient’s present problem/needs.
  • Uses 2 patient identifiers excluding patient room number.
  • Completes ongoing assessments/reassessments according to hospital policy or based on patient’s needs.
  • Documents care based on standards of care and practice and/or clinical priorities for documentation.
  • Participates in various levels of patient care, to include but not all encompassing: Responding to patients who have had a change in medical/mental status, Starting, Removing or Replacing IV fluids, Inserting peripheral IV catheters (also utilizing US guidance), Monitoring patients receiving captopril, metoprolol, regadenoson, and other medications, Monitoring and actively involved in MRI scans with ICEDs (implantable cardiac electronic devices), Schedules and/or assists modalities procedures.
  • Assists clinical coordinator in prioritizing patient needs and workflow between departments.
  • Assisting in requesting H&P for applicable procedure two days prior to the date the patient is scheduled.
  • Assists in transporting critically ill patients to and from imaging department.
  • Assists in drawing/reviewing labs needed for imaging procedures.
  • Prepares medications per each physician order and labels all solutions/medications as required by TJC.
  • Sedates and Monitors patients having advanced Interventional Imaging Procedures.
  • Administer cardiac stressing medications such as regadenoson under the supervision of CRNP/physician as well as monitor the patient after administration.
  • Informs and prepares patient for procedures.
  • Performs follow up phone calls to patients who have had Interventional Imaging Procedures.
  • Assists in ensuring that the department is in compliance with all applicable standards by following all guidelines of TJC, HIPAA, and other appropriate agencies.
  • Maintain nursing area for compliance.
