About The Position

The RN is a nursing professional care provider under the direction of the director or designee who utilizes the nursing process, nursing standards and physicians orders to plan, provide and direct nursing practice. Accomplishment of nursing practice that includes practice elements as defined by the Kentucky Board of Nursing and in accordance with the Ephraim McDowell Health nursing professional practice model. Performance that accomplishes patient and family centered care as central to practice and a foundation of caring, compassion, competence, communication, collaboration and teamwork. Responsible to participate in shared nursing leadership to accomplish positive outcomes, education, respect, dignity and safety for the patient and their family. Accountable for leadership of self and others and functions as charge nurse when designated. Exhibits F.I.R.S.T. values (Friendliness, Innovation, Respect, Service and Trust).

  • One (1) year of nursing experience required.

Responsibilities

  • Caring for patients with mechanical ventilation, continuous vasoactive drip infusion with drug titration, continuous inotropic drip infusion with drug titration, continuous sedating drip infusion with drug titration, continuous neuromuscular blockade drip infusion with drug titration, continuous anti-hypertensive drip infusion with drug titration, continuous glycemic control drip infusion with drug titration, continuous antiplatelet/anticoagulating drip infusion with drug titration, continuous antithrombolytic drip infusion with drug titration, continuous antiarrhythmic drip infusion with drug titration, Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy, Temperature Management System via external and internal pad or catheters, Intra-Aortic balloon pump device, Impella ventricular assist device, EKOS Ultrasound-Enhanced thrombolytic device, Antithrombotic fountain catheters, Pulmonary artery catheter, Arterial lines, Tunneled and non-tunneled central venous line, Intraabdominal pressure monitoring system, Rotoprone bed therapy system, Cerebellum EEG Technology, Therapeutic Plasma Exchange via PrisMax CRRT Device, management of Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation modality via LivaNova device, Critical care thinking, Hemodynamic monitoring, and Complete care of Critically Ill Patient.
  • Assist with procedures including but not limited to: Bronchoscopy, Central venous line insertion, Arterial line insertion, Temporary dialysis access insertion, Pulmonary artery catheter insertion, Cardioversion, Transesophageal echocardiogram, Esophagogastroduodenoscopy, Colonoscopy, Percutaneous tracheostomy, Percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy, Thoracentesis, Paracentesis, Chest tube insertion, Lumbar puncture, Temporary pacemaker placement, and Emergent open laparotomy.
  • Compliance with all approved Critical Care ICU Standing Orders/Protocols/Policies including, but not limited to: Diabetic ketoacidosis insulin drip protocol, Critical care insulin drip protocol, ICU Nursing standing orders protocol, Critical care early mobility protocol, Therapeutic hypothermia protocol, Sub-anesthetic continuous ketamine infusion protocol, TPA for the acute ischemic stroke protocol, Continuous renal replacement therapy protocol, and KODA Organ procurement protocol.
  • Care of the unstable patient including but not limited to: S/P Cardiac arrest, Septic shock, S/P Rapid response, Hemodynamically unstable admission from ED or outside facility, S/P major surgery, S/P cerebrovascular event, Reparatory failure/arrest, S/P Cardiac Cath Lab percutaneous intervention, and Trauma.
  • Obtainment of lab specimens from patient via: Obtaining blood specimens from venipuncture, Obtaining blood specimens from central venous lines, Obtaining blood specimens from pulmonary arterial lines, Obtaining blood specimens from arterial lines, Obtaining sputum specimens, Obtaining urine specimens, and Obtaining superficial tissue specimens.
