About The Position

Sanford Health, the largest rural health system in the United States, is dedicated to transforming the health care experience and providing access to world-class health care in America’s heartland. This role is within a >32 bed unit providing care for adult medical and surgical trauma patients. The unit handles a wide range of medical patients and general surgeries, including vascular surgery, Trauma, and Trauma Orthopedic. Sanford Health is recognized as a Hip Fracture Center of Excellence and is a level 1 Trauma Center. It is a busy, fast-paced, and challenging unit with a high patient turnover, caring for adult patients with an average length of stay of 3 days and an average daily census of 31. The nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:4-5 on Day and Evenings, and 1:5-6 on Nights. Teamwork and safety are priorities, requiring clear communication and delegation for success. This unit is considered excellent for new graduates looking to build a foundation and can serve as a stepping stone to units like ICU or ER.

Requirements

  • Graduate from an accredited nursing program required, including, but not limited to, American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN), Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN), and National League for Nursing Commission for Nursing Education Accreditation (NLN CNEA).
  • Currently holds an unencipumbered RN license with the State Board of Nursing where the practice of nursing is occurring and/or possess multistate licensure if in a Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) state.
  • Obtains and subsequently maintains required department specific competencies and certifications.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s Degree in nursing preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Utilizing the nursing process (assessment, diagnosis, outcomes/planning, implementation and evaluation) to provide individualized nursing care to patients.
  • Collaborating with other inter-professional colleagues, including physicians, to plan, implement and evaluate care.
  • Demonstrating competency and practicing within the full scope of nursing expertise/knowledge and utilizing appropriate age and population specific standards as designated in their assigned clinical setting.
  • Caring for patients in all phases of preventative care, health maintenance, diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up as patients move along the continuum of care.
  • Planning and coordinating care, patient assessment, patient education, triage, and various other nursing interventions.
  • Functioning within the scope and standards of nursing practice as outlined in the Nurse Practice Act and Administrative Rules in state of practice and licensure.
  • Adhering to the Sanford Professional Nursing Practice which recognizes the Scope and Standards of Practice and the Code of Ethics for Nurses with Interpretive Statements as published by the American Nurses Association as the foundation of nursing care delivery and professional conduct.
