About The Position

The Oncology Infusion Unit at Massachusetts General Hospital, part of Mass General Brigham, provides treatment and management for adult cancer patients receiving chemotherapy and biotherapy. The unit follows patients throughout their illness trajectory, from diagnosis and treatment to long-term follow-up and palliative care. RNs in this unit are committed to primary nursing, focusing on patient education, medication administration, symptom management, and documentation for patients on clinical trials or standard regimens. The role supports the organizational mission and the Cancer Center's investment in clinical research. RNs collaborate with the Cancer Center Protocol Office and Research Manager in administering clinical trials. The unit is led by a Nursing Director and supported by two Clinical Nurse Specialists, who establish standards of care, initiate quality improvement projects, and foster a positive patient care environment. The unit is equipped with 18 beds and 42 chairs. As Registered Nurses at Massachusetts General Hospital, actions are guided by knowledge, skill, and compassion, with patients as the primary focus. The goal is to create a healing environment that is safe, barrier-free, and built on inquiry, reflecting a diverse, inclusive, and culturally competent workforce.

Requirements

• Associate's Degree Nursing required or Bachelor's Degree Nursing preferred.
• Registered Nurse [RN - State License] - Generic - HR Only required.
• Clinical nursing experience 0-1 year required.
• Familiarity with the principles and skills needed for practical nursing to provide patient care and treatment.
• Knowledgeable of the care required by respective age groups for which care is being provided.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and secure sensitive information.
• Knowledge of medical terminology.
• Excellent verbal and communication skills.
• Ability to accurately screen and triage acute patients.

Nice To Haves

• minimum of 2-5 years RN experience in Oncology or 5-10 years ICU, ED or Medicine.

Responsibilities

• Interpreting the plan of medical care.
• Assessment of patients' clinical decision-making regarding nursing care.
• Assuring nursing care is provided in a safe and competent manner.
• Providing individualized nursing care.
• Evaluating nursing care for groups of patients.
• Patient education.
• Medication administration.
• Symptom management.
• Documentation of toxicities for patients participating in clinical trials and those receiving standard regimens.
• Participating in the administration of all phases of clinical trials in which their primary patients may be enrolled.
• Maintain accurate, detailed reports, and records.
• Administer medications to patients and monitor patients for reactions or side effects.
• Record patients' medical information and vital signs.
• Monitor, record, and and report symptoms or changes in patients' conditions.
• Consult and coordinate with healthcare team members to assess, plan, implement, or evaluate patient care plans.
• Modify patient treatment plans as indicated by patients' responses and conditions.
