About The Position

Faculty, Fellows, and Residents from the University of Kansas School of Medicine--Wichita’s Gastroenterology Department provide patient care through our clinic. We are dedicated to continuous quality improvement while providing high quality, efficient health care to patients. As the Infusion Nurse for the Gastroenterology Clinic, you will perform daily patient-centered tasks within scope of practice, assisting providers, providing patient care and ensuring efficient patient flow in the GI clinic.

Requirements

Kansas Registered Nurse license
IV Certification required
Associate degree (two-year college or technical school)
Three to five (3-5) years nursing experience required
EHR experience preferred (we use eClinicalWorks)
Microsoft Office experience a plus
Knowledge of nursing principles, practices, and procedures (includes vitals, immunizations, medications, in-office lab testing and procedures, and sterilization methods)
Knowledge of federal, state and payer regulations and requirements related to nursing services including patient safety, infection control (Universal Precautions), emergency operations, and patient confidentiality
Knowledge of medical terminology and medical documentation principles
Knowledge of clinical assessment, treatment and management protocols
Knowledge of medical ordering and referral procedures
Knowledge of medical terminology and medical documentation principles
Knowledge of HIPAA guidelines and procedures
Skill in building effective working relationships and developing teams
Skill in utilizing electronic health records to assess patients, gather data, analyze results, develop care plans, and make recommendations to providers
Skill in time management and prioritizing work

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with members of a multi-disciplinary team
Ability to communicate effectively patients, coworkers, residents, physicians, and external partners utilizing telephone and HIPAA-compliant methods

Ability to handle multiple priorities and meet deadlines
Ability to problem solve and make decisions related to duties
Ability to engage staff and lead with professionalism, candidness, and respect
Ability to handle upset patients and diffuse situations and manage the relationship with patient
Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) (closed toe shoes, masks when indicated)
Ability to be prompt and present during scheduled work hours

Responsibilities

Obtain and maintain intravenous access for administration of IV medications/fluids.
Monitor patients throughout IV infusion monitoring vital signs.
Maintain accurate documentation of medication administered, location of IV access, vital signs, etc., in the electronic medical record.
Responsible for the medication records to make sure they are in compliant with State and Federal regulations and reviewing accuracy of daily logs.
Complete physician orders for tests, injections, etc., as needed.
Checks charts to ensure all clinical reports (lab, X-Ray, etc.) are in place and call for missing reports, operative and pathology.
Triages phone calls and medication refills.
Rooms patients obtaining vital signs and medication reconciliation.
Administers injections and immunizations by appropriate route.
Assists providers with procedures and general patient care.
Schedules and coordinate outpatient procedures with Wesley Medical Center, Ascension Via Christi St. Francis, and Surgicare.
Completes insurance forms and paperwork for patients at the direction of the providers.
Monitors all medical equipment and documents appropriate logging information for Intrafusion
Maintains a clean and orderly work area.
Participates in clinic process improvement activities and team meetings to ensure efficient operations
Reliable attendance and punctuality
Performs other duties as assigned
