About The Position

Lakeway ICU is a unique gem that has a great mix of experience, personalities and patient populations. The Lakeway area and BSWH itself are all growing and the opportunities to advance, or usher in new technologies or clinical expertise remains high. The unit specializes in neurosurgery, often utilizing the most advanced clinical technologies to treat chronic neurological deficits. It offers a mixed ICU and IMC level of care, handling cases such as Stemi, Balloon pumps, CRRT, Artic Sun, Neurosurgical services, EVDs, Primary Stroke, DKA, and Septic Shock. The team consists of highly experienced staff with great teaching skills, fostering growth for new nurses. There is a strong collaborative relationship with intensivists, nurses, pharmacy, case management, and hospitalists to ensure optimal patient outcomes. Lakeway boasts a very low turnover rate and a cohesive team, with many ICU nurses having over 10 years of varying ICU experience. Requirements

  • A deep understanding of nursing and patient care standards, as well as procedures.
  • Knowledge of nursing laws, rules, standards, and guidelines in your area.
  • Understanding of hospital procedures and rules.
  • Proficiency in medical terms, focusing on health, disease prevention, management, common medications, and their side effects.
  • Respect for medical and professional nursing ethics and patient privacy rights.
  • Exceptional communication skills, allowing for clear expression of thoughts both verbally and in writing.
  • Positive social skills to facilitate interactions with a diverse range of parties.
  • Excellent problem-solving capabilities, driving effective critical thinking.
  • Basic computer skills, encompassing areas such as Microsoft Office, information security, scheduling and payroll systems, electronic medical documentation, and email.
  • Graduation from an Accredited Program.
  • Specialized field of study should be nursing.
  • Possession of an RN license.
  • Must have BLS certification or obtain it within 30 days of starting in this role.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee patient care using a professional practice model.
  • Conduct patient assessment, recognize health issues, create care plans, and assess patient responses.
  • Secure patient travel.
  • Maintain knowledge about patient needs in healthcare.
  • Help patients and prevent issues.
  • Follow the Texas Nursing Practice Act and delegate tasks based on condition and team competencies.
  • Conduct detailed clinical assessments and prioritize patient and family needs.
  • Create, implement, and evaluate care plans.
  • Adjust plans to reach desired outcomes.
  • Build relationships, manage discomfort, and maintain professionalism in therapeutic connections with patients and families.
  • Create care plans reflecting values to aid in resolving issues.
  • Help educate patients, families, nurses, and community members.
  • Empower patients and families with knowledge for better healthcare choices.
  • Assess and document learning needs regularly.
  • Work with colleagues and the community to create a care plan.
  • Delegate tasks carefully and follow up promptly.
  • Use different strategies for problem-solving with patients, families, and staff.
  • Recognize limitations and prioritize safety, effectiveness, and efficiency in patient care planning and delivery.
  • Achieve goals through teamwork, recognize contributions, and commit to growth.
  • Contribute to peers' development and show community service commitment.
