About The Position

Baylor Scott & White Medical Center - Lakeway is seeking a Full Time Registered Nurse for their ICU. This unique unit has a great mix of experienced staff, personalities, and patient populations. The Lakeway area and BSWH itself are growing, offering opportunities to advance, usher in new technologies, or bring in new clinical expertise. The ICU specializes in neurosurgery, often utilizing advanced clinical technologies. The unit provides a mixed ICU and IMC level of care, treating conditions such as Stemi, utilizing Balloon pumps, CRRT, and Artic Sun. Neurosurgical services, EVDs, Primary Stroke, DKA, and Septic Shock are also managed. The team boasts highly experienced staff with excellent teaching skills to help new nurses grow. There is a strong collaborative relationship with intensivists, pharmacy, case management, and hospitalists to ensure optimal patient outcomes. Lakeway ICU has a very low turnover rate, and the team works cohesently. Many ICU nurses have over 10 years of varied ICU experience. BSWH is expanding in the Austin region, providing plentiful opportunities for advancement. The ICU is committed to clinical advancement and positive patient outcomes, empowering bedside nurses to act as champions in areas of their interest, fostering engaged nurses who positively impact patients.

Requirements

Graduated from an Accredited Program.
Specialized field of study should be nursing.
RN license.
Must have BLS certification or obtain it within 30 days of starting.
A deep understanding of nursing and patient care standards, as well as procedures.
Knowledge of nursing laws, rules, standards, and guidelines in your area.
Understanding of hospital procedures and rules.
Proficiency in medical terms, focusing on health, disease prevention, management, common medications, and their side effects.
Respect for medical and professional nursing ethics and patient privacy rights.
Exceptional communication skills, allowing for clear expression of thoughts both verbally and in writing.
Positive social skills to facilitate interactions with a diverse range of parties.
Excellent problem-solving capabilities, driving effective critical thinking.
Basic computer skills, encompassing areas such as Microsoft Office, information security, scheduling and payroll systems, electronic medical documentation, and email.

Responsibilities

Oversee patient care using a professional practice model.
Conduct patient assessments, recognizing health issues.
Create and implement care plans, assessing patient responses.
Secure patient travel.
Understand patient needs in healthcare.
Assist patients and prevent issues.
Follow the Texas Nursing Practice Act and delegate tasks based on condition and team competencies.
Conduct detailed clinical assessments and prioritize patient and family needs.
Implement and evaluate care plans, adjusting them to reach desired outcomes.
Build relationships, manage discomfort, and maintain professionalism in therapeutic connections with patients and families.
Create care plans reflecting values to aid in resolving issues.
Educate patients, families, nurses, and community members, empowering them with knowledge for better healthcare choices.
Assess and document learning needs regularly.
Work with colleagues and the community to create a care plan.
Delegate tasks carefully and follow up promptly.
Use different strategies for problem-solving with patients, families, and staff.
Recognize limitations and prioritize safety, effectiveness, and efficiency in patient care planning and delivery.
