About The Position

The RN I assesses, develops, implements, and evaluates nursing care and treatment for patients in an assigned clinical area. The position coordinates clinical-area operations, including patient scheduling, maintaining patient records, and managing admissions. The nurse counsels patients and family members about patient treatment and conditions, coordinates patient services and care, and serves as a liaison with case managers, home health nurses, utilization review, and others. Duties are performed in accordance with the medical center’s purpose. The position may require call at the department’s discretion.

Requirements

Valid RN license.
Knowledge of clinical nursing care procedures and protocols.
Verbal and written communication skills.
Interpersonal skills.
Knowledge and understanding of computer systems, tools, and programs.
Ability to work in a team environment.

Responsibilities

Provide patient care by assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating treatments and interventions.
Educate patients and, when appropriate, family members about the patient’s condition, diet, medication or treatment side effects, and the importance of following medication schedules.
Ensure patient safety.
Coordinate referrals to services within and outside the immediate area or unit.
Maintain accurate patient records.
Function as a preceptor in accordance with UMMC guidelines.
Report patient issues or concerns to a supervisor as appropriate.
Serve on at least one nursing council, hospital or medical center committee, task force, or project team to improve patient care or the work area.
Demonstrate core standards of exceptional customer service.
Coordinate clinical-area operations, including patient scheduling and the patient admissions process.
Coordinate patient services and care and liaise with case managers, home health nurses, and utilization review.
