About The Position

The RN I provides nursing care and treatment to patients in an assigned clinical area of the Adult Behavioral Health Unit, 7 East/7 West. The role assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates patient care; coordinates clinical-area operations, patient services, scheduling, records, and admissions; counsels patients and family members; and serves as a liaison with case managers, home health nurses, utilization review, and other services. The nurse performs duties in accordance with the medical center’s purpose. The position may require call at the department’s discretion.

Requirements

Valid RN license.
Knowledge of clinical nursing care procedures and protocols.
Verbal and written communication skills.
Interpersonal skills.
Knowledge and understanding of computer systems, tools, and programs.
Ability to work in a team environment.

Responsibilities

Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate treatments, interventions, and nursing care for patients.
Educate patients and, as appropriate, family members about the patient’s condition, diet, medication or treatment side effects, and adherence to medication schedules.
Ensure patient safety.
Coordinate referrals to services inside and outside the immediate area or unit.
Maintain accurate patient records.
Coordinate clinical-area operations, including patient scheduling and the patient admissions process.
Counsel patients and family members regarding treatment and patient conditions.
Coordinate patient services and care, and act as a liaison with case managers, home health nurses, utilization review, and others.
Serve as a preceptor in accordance with UMMC guidelines.
Report patient issues or concerns to a supervisor as appropriate.
Serve on at least one nursing council, hospital or medical center committee, task force, or project team to improve patient care or the work area.
Demonstrate core standards of exceptional customer service.
