About The Position

Step into a high-impact House Supervisor role at Barnes-Jewish Hospital, part of BJC HealthCare, where you will support hospital-wide operations and patient care across both the main campus and North Campus. In this float leadership position, you will serve as a central resource during off-shift hours, overseeing staffing and responding to operational needs across more than 65 inpatient units. This role plays a critical part in ensuring patient safety, supporting throughput, and maintaining efficient care delivery across a complex academic medical center. This is a full-time night shift role, working three 12-hour shifts (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM), with a rotating weekend requirement (typically every third weekend, with flexibility to every sixth weekend based on staffing needs) and three holidays per year. Each shift presents new challenges, offering a dynamic and fast-paced environment for nurses who thrive in non-routine, decision-driven roles.

Requirements

  • 2–4+ years of acute care RN experience
  • Strong critical thinking, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • RN license
  • 2-5 years experience
  • Supervisor Experience < 2 years

Nice To Haves

  • Prior charge nurse or leadership experience preferred
  • BSN preferred, or ADN with current enrollment in a BSN program
  • 5-10 years experience

Responsibilities

  • Manages individual(s) including but not limited to: hires, trains, assigns work, manages & evaluates performance, conducts professional development plans. Ensures that the productivity and actions of that group meet/support the overall operational goals of the department as established by department leadership.
  • Supervises the delivery of safe and appropriate patient care across the organization. Effectively responds to special circumstances and acts as the on site leader.
  • Assists with patient care operations and integration of services between departments.
  • Assists in the clinical development of nursing staff, including observing and coaching staff in performance of clinical duties and interpersonal interactions and monitoring staff and unit compliance in accordance with regulatory guidelines.
  • Functions as a liaison between Administration and all departments and customers.
  • Ensures that the productivity and actions of that group meet/support the overall operational goals of the department as established by department leadership.
  • May participate in the development of departmental staffing, revenue and/or expense budgets and having direct responsibility for adhering to those goals. This includes responding to changes in the business which may affect the ability to achieve the budget goals.
