About The Position

The RN Hospice Clinical Education Specialist directs all education activities related to the development and orientation of clinical agency staff and oversees the implementation of State and Federal guidelines. This role oversees the development of new programs, while assuring compliance to state, federal, and accreditation guidelines and regulations. The position is for the Hospice and Palliative Care Program of the Agency, covering the Glastonbury branch and assisting the Norwich branch. The role involves developing new education programs, planning and implementing cost-effective educational programs, providing comprehensive orientation and clinical in-service education, developing evaluation systems for educational activities, and collaborating with leadership on annual learning needs assessments. The specialist will also collaborate with management on educational assessments, review and update policies annually according to regulations, and consult with supervisors on clinical components related to quality and regulations. The role includes investigating quality initiatives, making educational resources available, communicating effectively with clients, and providing person-centered care. The position requires reliability in reporting to work and completing required education and medical requirements. Related duties include participating in designated committees.

Requirements

  • Current Connecticut RN License.
  • Maintains current Driver's License.
  • Three (3) years’ experience in acute care/home care/public health administration.
  • Two years’ experience in staff development.
  • Teaching experience in an acute care, home health or public health arena.

Nice To Haves

  • Preference of Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing from an NLN accredited college or university.

Responsibilities

  • Develops new education programs for the PSA offices and as needed for the organization.
  • Plans and implements cost-effective educational programs to meet identified learning needs of the Hospice department.
  • Provides comprehensive orientation and clinical in-service education.
  • Develops an appropriate evaluation system to determine effectiveness of educational activities and works with leadership to develop an annual learning needs assessment.
  • Collaborates with management in PSA offices on educational assessments, recommendations, and outcomes.
  • Reviews policies annually and updates as needed according to State, Federal and OSHA regulations.
  • Collaborates with management and staff in writing policy related to clinical staff development.
  • Consults with Supervisors of Clinical Services to support understanding and addressing clinical components related to quality, OSHA, State and Federal regulations.
  • Investigates and participates in pertinent quality initiatives.
  • Makes educational resources available to all staff members.
  • Communicates effectively and tactfully with clients, recognizing their age, cultural diversity, needs, abilities and physical condition.
  • Provides care and services that demonstrate behaviors that demonstrate the principles of person-centered care including affording people dignity, respect and compassion, offering coordinated care, support and treatment and care that is personalized.
  • Can be depended upon to report to work on-time, use time off appropriately, and complete annual education & medical requirements.
  • Performs related and other duties as required including participating in designated committees as assigned.
