The Registered Nurse (RN) in the Electrophysiology (EP)/Cardiac Device Lab supports patients and physicians in the Heart, Vascular & Thoracic Institute’s outpatient department. This role provides specialized nursing care to patients with cardiac arrhythmias and implantable cardiac devices in ambulatory and inpatient settings. A caregiver in this position works days from 7:30 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
  • Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross or willing to obtain with six months of employment
  • One year of recent experience as an RN OR Licensed RN with at least two years of LPN experience within the same Cleveland Clinic procedural department

Responsibilities

  • Provide nursing care to patients undergoing diagnostic or therapeutic services to hospitalized patients in a variety of healthcare settings.
  • Assess patients, complete nursing assessments, document findings in patient records and notify physicians of abnormal findings.
  • Perform telephone triage and call rotations.
  • Perform nursing procedures and administer treatments and medications.
  • Establish care plans in collaboration with patients, families and the health care team.
  • Coordinate ongoing care, identify discharge needs and facilitate discharge planning.
  • Evaluate, initiate and maintain standards of care.
  • Educate patients and families.
  • Perform interrogation, interpretation, and programming of implantable cardiac devices, including pacemakers, ICDs, CRT devices, S-ICDs, and implantable loop recorders.
  • Monitor device function and patient status; promptly escalate urgent or abnormal findings to providers.
  • Apply clinical judgment and critical thinking to patient care decisions within scope of practice, using established standards, protocols, and clinical data.
  • Collaborate with electrophysiologists and the care team to support safe, efficient patient care.
