About The Position

Performs the primary function of a professional nurse in assessing, planning, directing, and evaluating nursing care provided to patients. Responsible for interacting with hospital staff and/or ancillary departments regarding patient care, concerns, and conflicts by identifying and assisting in the resolutions. This position will, during his/her shift operate without Unit Clerk, Respiratory Therapy, Stroke Team, OB Support, Code Blue support, Phlebotomy and House Supervisor. FED Registered Nurses are responsible for, but not limited to Ventilator Management, Lab Draws including ABGs, placing phone calls and receiving/answering phone calls, paging on call resources, Responding/Activating Code Blue and Housekeeping as needed. Responsible and accountable for maintaining performance skills. This position summary contains the most relevant duties and responsibilities and does not exclude other assignments not mentioned. Position does work weekends, holidays, evenings, nights, overtime, and/or on an on-call/call-back status.

Requirements

  • RN Licensure in State of Texas
  • Availability to work for one full weekend per month.
  • Availability to work for one full holiday, recognized by STHS (New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas).
  • Willingness to be cross trained to other unit areas.
  • Commitment and adherence to STHS’s Compliance Program and Code of Conduct through compliance with all policies and procedures, the Code of Conduct, attendance at required training and immediately reporting suspected compliance issue(s) to the Compliance Officer.
  • Associate-Degree, Baccalaureate Degree or Diploma from a School of Nursing or University.
  • New graduate RNs in possession of a permit to practice in the State of Texas may provide documentation from their RN program validating their completion of nursing program requirements.
  • Current certifications as required by the AHA for Healthcare Provider’s Program.
  • Current BCLS/CPR certification upon hire and thereafter.
  • Current ACLS certification (required for FED RN; RN with one year or less of experience may obtain within 12 months of hire; RN with over one year of experience - obtain within 6 months of hire; if hired with a current certification must keep current at all times).
  • Current PALS certification (required for FED RN; RN with one year or less of experience may obtain within 12 months of hire; RN with over one year of experience - obtain within 6 months of hire; if hired with a current certification must keep current at all times).
  • Current NRP certification (required for FED RN; RN with one year or less of experience may obtain within 12 months of hire; RN with over one year of experience - obtain within 6 months of hire; if hired with a current certification must keep current at all times).
  • Current TNCC certification (required for FED RN; RN with one year or less of experience may obtain within 12 months of hire; RN with over one year of experience - obtain within 6 months of hire; if hired with a current certification must keep current at all times).
  • Current CPI certification (required for FED RN; RN with one year or less of experience may obtain within 12 months of hire; RN with over one year of experience - obtain within 6 months of hire; if hired with a current certification must keep current at all times).

Responsibilities

  • Operating without Unit Clerk, Respiratory Therapy, Stroke Team, OB Support, Code Blue support, Phlebotomy and House Supervisor during the shift.
  • Ventilator Management.

  • Paging on call resources.
