About The Position

West Penn Hospital’s Float Pool are highly trained expert RN’s who cover all areas of their specialty and clinical expertise. There is a variety of types of patients we receive and the level of acuity in the departments. This grouping includes the 16-bed Surgical ICU/Burn unit caring for both adult and pediatric patients, a 10-bed Surgical ICU caring for general, vascular, surgical and gyne/onc, and obstetric ICU patients, and a 12-bed Medical ICU caring for medical, COPD, CHF, DKA, and general critical care patients. This position has a $7/hour additional allowance on top of base rate per West Penn CBA. The Registered Nurse assesses human responses and plans, implements and evaluates nursing care for individuals or families for whom the nurse is responsible. The Registered Nurse is fully responsible for all actions as a licensed nurse and is accountable to patients for the quality of care delivered. Scheduling requirements for nurses in the Enhanced Float Pool must be balanced within each specific Section of the Float Pool. This is not dependent on the total number of FTEs. (i.e., if there are seven (7) PCU nurses scheduled in a week, one (1) nurse should be scheduled per day). Unit groupings or cluster assignments are defined in the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years acute care nursing experience required in ICU
  • Current State of PA RN licensure OR Current multi-state licensure through the enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact (eNLC).
  • CPR – American Heart Association
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) - American Heart Association
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) American Heart Association preferred
  • NIH Stroke certification preferred
  • Act 34 Criminal Background Clearance Certificate
  • Act 33 Child Abuse Clearance Certificate
  • Act 73 FBI Fingerprinting Criminal Background Clearance Certificate
