About The Position

This is a part-time (.6 FTE) Registered Nurse position on the Flex Team, working day shifts. The role requires a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) and a minimum of 3 years of hospital-based experience. Responsibilities include comprehensive patient assessment, developing and implementing care plans, synthesizing data for nursing diagnoses, implementing care plans using critical thinking, evaluating patient outcomes, collaborating with interdisciplinary teams, ensuring patient safety through accurate EMR documentation, monitoring and improving the quality of care, supervising nursing students, and potentially serving as a charge nurse or resource nurse across units. The position also involves directing, delegating, and providing feedback to support personnel.

Requirements

  • Basic nursing skills; concepts of medical, surgical asepsis and disease processes; terminology, theory, techniques and practices of professional nursing.
  • Effective verbal and written communication in care management.

  • Ability to remain calm and handle stress and emotional responses adapted to the needs of patients and staff.
  • Demonstrate skills in analyzing problems, decision making, planning and implementation.
  • Safe body mechanics and ability to use specialized equipment for assigned units.
  • Able to demonstrate and maintain soft skills as outlined in the Sky Lakes Medical Center Employee Standards handbook.
  • A Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree is required.
  • Minimum 3 years hospital-based experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Certification in area of specialty (e.g., CEN, CPEN, CCRN, CNOR)
  • ICU or ED must obtain TNCC within one year of hire and maintained.
  • FBC must obtain EFM within one year of hire and maintained.
  • PALS or ENPC must be obtained within 6 months for ED/ICU/Pediatrics within six months.

Responsibilities

  • Complete a comprehensive assessment, including initial and ongoing, extensive collection, analysis and interpretation of data.
  • Develop and implement a plan of care for each patient through the nursing process regarding the care, counseling, and health teaching of the ill, injured or infirm.
  • Synthesize the data collected during the comprehensive assessment to identify problems, make nursing diagnoses, and to formulate goals, teaching plans and outcomes.
  • Implement the plan of care using critical thinking and problem-solving skills to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care.
  • Evaluate and report patient outcomes and responses to therapeutic interventions in comparison to benchmarks from evidence-based practice and research findings and plans, any follow-up care and referrals to appropriate resources that may be needed.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to plan and deliver care.
  • Observe and follow patient safety alerts by detailing accurate and timely entry of patient information in the electronic medical record (EMR).
  • Develops action plans and improves patient care by monitoring and evaluating quality of care with the focus on nurse sensitive indicators.
  • Participate in unit-based PI activities to positively impact patient outcomes.
  • Makes themself available to supervise nursing students when student nurses are assigned to the same unit.
  • Fill in as a department’s charge nurse or function as a resource nurse across units as needed.
  • Directs, delegates, and provides feedback to support personnel in implementing patient's plan of care, and immediately intervenes with deviation standards of care.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
