The RN First Assist (RNFA) is responsible to the patient and the surgical team to assist, educate, and facilitate an optimal outcome for the patient. This role involves participating in preoperative assessment and planning, developing individualized perioperative patient care plans, and implementing these plans through direct assistance during surgical procedures. The RNFA also acts as a resource for operating room staff, ensures patient safety, manages specimens, administers medications, and provides patient education. The position requires a strong understanding of anatomical and physiological implications, proficiency in surgical techniques, and the ability to collaborate effectively with the surgical team and other healthcare professionals. Additionally, the RNFA is responsible for maintaining quality standards, managing operational costs, and pursuing professional growth.
