The PICU fellowship is a year-long program comprised of three phases to support the acquisition of the knowledge, skills, and abilities registered nurses need for successful transition into the pediatric critical care nursing specialty. The fellowship involves performing an age-specific plan of care for a designated group of patients using the nursing process of assessment, diagnosis, outcome identification, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care. It also includes collaborating with physicians and other health team members in coordinating and implementing procedures and treatments, and utilizing leadership skills and clinical judgment in coordinating patient care and directing/delegating activities of the patient care unit team.
