About The Position

Atrium Health Mercy, a 196-bed facility of Carolinas Medical Center, is seeking an experienced RN Facility Nurse Educator for a full-time position. This role focuses on developing and implementing orientation and continuing education programs for the nursing team, ensuring compliance with licensure and certification requirements, and utilizing adult education principles. The facility is Planetree Certified, emphasizing patient-centered care, and is Magnet certified in Nursing Excellence. The Nurse Educator will collaborate with nursing leadership, design educational programs, coordinate student placements and preceptorships, and assess learning needs through various methods. The position involves working in an office setting with periods of sitting, walking, and travel within hospital grounds and to other facilities, requiring the ability to lift up to 51 pounds and perform various physical movements.

Requirements

  • Current applicable state RN licensure required.
  • BSN required.
  • 3 years clinical experience in a related area (OR, ER, acute care) required.
  • BLS required per policy guidelines.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous Perioperative Services experience in PreOp, PACU strongly preferred.
  • Specialty certification may be preferred or required for specific areas (e.g., Med Ctr Air Flight Nurse Educator).

Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with nursing leadership to assess needs for orientation and continuing education for the nursing team.
  • Develops and conducts facility-specific orientation for licensed and non-licensed nursing staff.
  • Facilitates 30-day new employee orientation and 90-day reunion sessions as part of service excellence initiatives.
  • Designs programs to enhance nursing practice and assists learners in complying with licensure and certification requirements.
  • Coordinates with Nurse Managers to place and orient students, and organize preceptorships for undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Utilizes adult education principles to plan, design, and implement educational activities based on identified learning needs.
  • Works as a program planner.
  • Assesses learning needs through direct observation, formal needs assessment, program evaluation, or other organizational activity reports.
